A little bit about me • Mrs. Jenna Linskens • Live west of Appleton • Elementary Educator for 11 years (taught IK, K, 1, 2, 5, 6) in Appleton Public Schools • Full-time Faculty at Marian University • DH – Dale a H.S. LD teacher • 2 DS – Trentyn (11) Jack (2 1/2) • 2 dogs – Rootbeer & Belle • I love to golf, read, attend musicals, travel and go camping. • I have been in your place. I wrote my own AR paper on “The Effectiveness of Integrated Kindergarten”.

Timelines and Deadlines • All assignments due by midnight on Sundays to be graded on Mondays • Module One – due Sept. 20 • Module Two – due Oct. 4 • Module Three – due Oct. 11 • Module Four – due Oct. 25 • Module Five – due Nov. 1 • Back online: Nov. 23 • Module Six – due Nov. 29 • Module Seven – due Dec. 6 • Final Paper – due Dec. 13 - 17

Grading with Rubrics • All modules have rubrics for Sections of the paper & Discussion ?s • Module Eight has a Final Paper Rubric worth 50 points - use this rubric to help write the paper • Points will be deducted for late assignments – Late if submitted after Monday • Discussion Questions – 1st Post due by Wednesday so others can reply with a minimum of 2 posts (Min. is 3)

My Requirements! • No draft reads – have a peer do it • 1st Submission Upload to Marian Online • Remember to click “Request Grading” for assignments & discussions • You do not have to repost discussion comments in Assignment section • Send a preferred email address for feedback to jalinskens67@marianuniversity.edu • Assignments due midnight on Sunday • Correct and submit a 2nd time to jalinskens67@marianuniversity.edu within 1 week of grading for additional points – UP TO a 9/10

A Quick Overview of Action Research • AR is defined as the process of studying a real school or classroom situation to understand and improve the quality of actions or instruction. • AR is a systematic and orderly way for teachers to observe their practice or to explore a problem. • AR is a planned, organized and methodical observation that can be shared with others

  17. 6 Essential Steps to Action Research • 1. Ask a question, identify a problem • 2. Seek out prior research related to your question / problem – what do others have to say • 3. Decide on what data should be collected, how it should be collected and how often • 4. Collect and analyze data • 5. Describe your findings and how they can be used and applied • 6. Report or share your findings and plan for action with others. • *You may find yourself repeating some of these steps several times or doing them in a different order*

  22. Before you start your research • You can begin writing your paper and complete all modules 1-5 without IRB approval. • You must have IRB approval prior to sending home permission letters and beginning any data collection • Let’s look at the IRB forms together!
