  1. People of Kosciuszko Area By Sarah Graham

  2. The Snowy in the 19thcentury • From the 1820s the aboriginal people were slowly pushed away when the Europeans arrived. Mount Kosciuszko was named after Tadesuz Kosciuszko.

  3. A Wasted Resource • 99% of the rivers water was used to be retained and diverted for the power generation and irrigation but in 2000 the people decided to make 28% of it for the river’s former flow. The snowy river was also home to many non-indigenous Australians.

  4. Environmental and Social Costs • All the people who lived low down the stream of Jindabyne Dam were compelled to find new sources of water. Environmental concerns were not taken seriously to the Snowy River in the east.

  5. Environmental and Social Benefits • It took quite a few years of hard work before the farm returned a profit. The Snowy Mountains Scheme gave 74% of available renewable energy on the eastern mainland Australian electricity grid and 28% was for all over the world.

  6. New Towns • The new lake Jindabyne has succeeded a little bit. But the new Adaminably didn’t do so well as to the physical and economic isolation.

  7. Snowy Scheme Kids • The Snowy Mountain Scheme was a unique place to grow up in because of the strange climate but still thousands of children grew up there.

  8. A Multicultural Workforce • The Snowy Mountain Scheme began in 1949 and at the time there wasn’t a big amount of scientific and engineering skills around. But from over 30 different countries Australians worked alongside people.
