  3. Suffix -ly • Suffix ly is added to the end of a base word to change a word’s function in a sentence. • Tell your partner what these ly words(adverbs) are describing.

  4. Suffix -ly • Her hair is naturally curly. • They hungrily ate the pizza. • The dog gingerly chewed on the bone. • They skipped merrily along the hall. • The cabin had a lovely view of the mountains.

  5. Homographs • With your partner, make a list of at least 10 homographs. • Be prepared to share your list.

  6. Amazing Words • Ferocity: a great fierceness or intensity • The lion roared with ferocity. • Audacity: a willingness to be bold and take risks • He showed audacity as he searched for the missing boy.

  7. Vocabulary • Compressions- pressing • Frank is grateful the doctor used chest compressions to save his father. • Grumbled-complained • The students grumbled when the teacher told them they had a test.

  8. Vocabulary • Insistently-repeatedly • The dog insistently barked at the boy. • Minute- very small • We found minute traces of chocolate on the counter top.

  9. Vocabulary • Neutral-non-working position of the gears • If the car is in neutral, it won’t go anywhere. • Normally- commonly • The cats normally sit under the tree at night.

  10. Vocabulary • Intentionally- purposely • He intentionally missed the plane.

  11. Language • Tell me what kind of sentence this is. • What is your favorite ice cream? • Interrogative • We were really good friends. • Declarative • I love that book! • exclamatory
