  4. Tumor Staging The stage of a cancer is one of the most important factors in determining prognosis and treatment options. Staging Breast Cancer Solid Tumor Staging Clinical Staging Generalization- (The Source Use Case is a special case of the more general target use case. Extend- (The Source Use Case is a conditionally executed set of actions that are a sub-component of the larger target use case. Pathologic Staging Add Staging Information

  5. Staging Definition The stagedescribes the extent of the cancer in the body. It is based on whether the cancer is invasive or non-invasive, the size of the tumor, how many lymph nodes are involved, and if it has spread to other parts of the body. Staging is the process of finding out how widespread a cancer is when it is diagnosed.

  6. Tumor Grade A pathologist also assigns a grade to the cancer, which is based on how closely the biopsy sample resembles normal breast tissue. The grade helps predict a woman's prognosis. The tumor grade is one factor in deciding the need for further treatment after surgery.

  7. Tumor Marker A tumor marker is a substance found in the blood, urine, or body tissues that can be elevated in cancer, among other tissue types. There are many different tumor markers, each indicative of a particular disease process, and they are used in oncology to help detect the presence of cancer. An elevated level of a tumor marker can indicate cancer; however, there can also be other causes of the elevation.
