Dementia Care Mapping An observational tool described by Kitwood (1997) as “a serious attempt to take the standpoint of the person with dementia, using a combination of empathy and observational skill .” (Dementia Reconsidered:the person comes first) • Focuses on an individual person’s experience • Guides and supports care away from being task centred and towards person centred • Identifies and supports staff training & development needs

  5. Workshop Evaluations I’ve learnt that we should worry most about the quiet ones…… …..I really feel I’ve learnt more about respecting people…… I think I might have better relationships with my residents now….. …..I’m now conscious that I haven't really been listening to people I care for…..
