  15. Advantages of Touch-Screen? • It’s faster (if implemented well) • It’s a natural way to interact with electronic devices • It’s what consumers expect EC276 - Product Training

  16. How has it been implemented in IX 200 IS? • Touch screen has been combined with conventional camera control (buttons) Button Control Touch Control Infrequent use Commonly used functions Menu item selection Servo AF AF modes Date/Time IS mode Shooting mode selection Exposure compensation Flash settings Touch AF Vertical shutter release Review/erase/protect Magnify an image Scroll display Movie playback Set as favourite EC276 - Product Training

  17. Touch Screen Demonstration

  18. Touch Screen - Shooting Large icons Shooting mode selection On-screen guidance Easy to press Display of six modes and mode names is easy to understand at a glance Designed for viewing at a glance, high visibility icons are visible in all conditions. High quality smooth animation is provided with guidance Exposure compensation Flash settings Vertical release When held vertically, the vertical position shutter button displays automatically, and you can shoot by Touch! You can release the shutter with your thumb, and as it is easy to hold you can stylishly take casual photos Exposure adjusted by dragging the bar Easy to understand guidance EC276 - Product Training

  19. Touch AF – with people Competitor models do not currently track AF/AE after half-press Canon So... Touch people you want to photograph on the LCD monitor! → AF tracking starts Whilepressing the shutter button halfway, AF tracking works even when people move, and exposure also compensates! No missed photo opportunities, and capture the exposure correctly! Focus and exposure are not adjusted AFtracking starts AF/AE tracking • Out of Focus • Incorrect exposure Shutter button Pressed fully Shutter button Pressed halfway EC276 - Product Training

  20. Touch AF – non human subjects Other competitors do not offer object tracking Canon So... Touch your dog on the LCD → AF tracking starts While pressing the shutter button halfway, AF tracking works even when pets and things move, and exposure also compensates! No missed photo opportunities, and capture the exposure correctly! Focus and exposure are not adjusted AFtracking starts AF/AE tracking • Out of Focus • Incorrect exposure Shutter button Pressed fully Shutter button Pressed halfway EC276 - Product Training

  21. Touch Screen - Playback Action Magnify with single touch ‘Flick’ between images Fast review with “Scroll Display” Gesture with “Touch Actions” When displaying movies, start playback with a Touch! EC276 - Product Training

  22. Touch Actions • When the user gestures up/down and across the camera recognises the gesture as a “Touch Action”. • It’s fast, it’s new and it’s useful. • Users can assign a gesture to a camera action • Images can be quickly erased protected, rotated, added to slideshow, tagged as a “favorite”, or navigation to the previous or next “favorite” or day in the sequence, is possible • Then dragging it in right or left , user can decide what the gesture controls. EC276 - Product Training

  23. Question: Has battery life suffered as a result of Touch Screen? Answer:IX 200 IS is powered by NB-6L and can achieve 240 shots or 360 mins of playback. (The DIGITAL IXUS 110 IS achieves 200 shots/300 mins playback) EC276 - Product Training

  24. 24mm Wide-angle 5x Zoom lens Improved groups shots Get more into your photos 24mm 28mm 35mm Create a greater sense of space Improved landscapes EC276 - Product Training

  25. Question: How was a 24mm 5x zoom lens achieved in a compact form? Answer:The use of a double-sided aspherical UA lens as the primary lens, and a high refractive index dispersion glass lens as the secondary lens, achieves a low-profile construction in the first lens group, along with favourable chromatic aberration correction at the wide-angle end of the lens EC276 - Product Training

  26. Active Display – Now detects backward & forward motion Shake quickly (horizontal to the lens barrel) to operate. Start / Stops playback of Movies Zooms in / out when using Image Inspection Tool Tilting the camera with left(right) button will advance image playback. In addition, if tilted more the images advance quicker Shaking quickly (horizontal to the LCD monitor) will advance or return images one frame at a time. to previous images Advancing images to next images EC276 - Product Training

  28. Ultra-Wide Ultra-Modern Touch-Screen IXUS. EC276 - Product Training

  29. Competitors

  30. Panasonic’s Touch Screen Strategy • 1 model in the range – the FX550 • Panasonic use a hybrid control system of buttons and touch screen. • Probably the closest system to IX 200 IS’s Design wise - looks exactly the same as every other Panasonic DSC EC276 - Product Training

  31. Panasonic’s Touch Screen Record Playback Possible functions Touch AF/AE On-screen adjustment of Aperture / Shutter Speed / exposure comp. Shooting mode selection Flash modes AF modes Touch AF/AE is available but is not active after shutter half-press Image options presented as icons compared to our “Touch Actions” Sliders control aperture and shutter speed in Manual mode EC276 - Product Training

  32. Touch Screen comparison - Panasonic • Panasonic can’t match the quality of our on-screen animations. Ours are much smoother and feel much better • Panasonic lock the exposure and focus after shutter half-press • Panasonic’s Touch AF needs to be selected to use it • Panasonic don’t include “Touch Actions”– functions only available from menu or icons • Panasonic's screen is noticeably recessed into the body – not as smooth as IX 200 IS’s design EC276 - Product Training

  33. Sony Touch Screen models • Two models in the range – T90 and T900; The T90 has a smaller, lower resolution screen but otherwise very similar cameras • Sony models have full touch screen control – menu and settings all selected on-screen Screen fills the back of the camera - quite difficult to handle and not change settings Design and Ergonomics Cradle connector T900 Tiny Zoom control EC276 - Product Training

  34. Sony Touch Screen Image Playback Shooting mode selection Lots of icons cluttering the screen, we use Touch Actions Guidance display Messages shifted to the top of the screen Shooting mode selection icons smaller than ours EC276 - Product Training

  35. Sony Touch Screen Image Index Playback Menu System Up / Down Control – no easy way to quickly advance through images or zoom out further Tabbed browsing system has 6 pages in total Double press to select, single press for guidance – annoying! EC276 - Product Training

  36. Touch Screen comparison - Sony • Sony’s menu system is split into many pages – • Browsing favourites or by date has to be selected from the menu option • Sony is not able to detect “gestures” to browse or perform functions • Sony models do not detect the speed of finger movement across the screen which is very useful and intuitive in IX 200 IS • Lots of the screen is taken with icons • Sony has Touch AF but no AF/AE tracking after half-press • Canon beats Sony on battery life (240 vs. 220/200 shots) • Sony models do not have a direct HDMI connection for HD playback EC276 - Product Training

  37. Nikon’s Touch Screen • Nikon have 2 models in the range supporting touch-screen: S230 and S60 • Both models feature full touch screen control S60 S230 EC276 - Product Training

  38. Nikon Touch Screen Flash mode selection Shooting mode selection Stylus needed in order to make the correct selection on smaller icons Small scene icons EC276 - Product Training

  39. Nikon Touch Screen Flash mode selection Playback menu Two tone colour scheme, very basic buttons not high visibility like ours Vertically scroll through the menu options EC276 - Product Training

  40. Nikon Touch Screen Even the optical zoom is controlled via the screen! Image actions in very small icons – no touch actions. No touch/double touch for image magnify Stylus allows writing or drawing over images EC276 - Product Training

  41. Nikon Touch Screen • Both Nikon models have very poor for battery life (140 shots / 160 shots) • Image quality is reported as below average in a number of reviews: • http://www.digitalcameratracker.com/nikon-s60-reviews-sample-photos/ • Nikon’s menu system is not very refined – constant scrolling and small icons • Nikon offer no Touch Actions, No Touch Servo AF/AE after half-press Nikon S60: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q408slimgroup/page6.asp “Requires at least four screen presses to change a simple setting” “A frustrating affair” “Often fails to respond” EC276 - Product Training

  42. Our strengths • IX 200 IS contains a responsive touch screen interface – fast & precise • “Touch Actions” are new for DSC market – it avoids the creation of separate menus and multiple touches on-screen • None of the competitors offer Touch AF with Servo AF/AE after half-press • None of the competitors come close to the quality of the animations on IX 200 IS • IX 200 IS’s buttons are large and are clearly visible on the screen • IX 200 IS’s battery life is competitive in the market EC276 - Product Training

  43. Technical comparison EC276 - Product Training

  44. Winning Specifications • 24mm wide anglebeats all main competitors • 5.0x zoom in a compact body is very competitive • HDMI output for no loss of quality – no special cables or docks • Sony and Nikon lenses are located on the top right of the camera body – which is inconvenient for handling • Our Touch Screen interface is Canon quality • DIGIC imaging performance & Smart AUTO EC276 - Product Training
