ARC: Accommodation Review Committee • Student accommodation reviews may be initiated as a result of contemplated changes to grades or programs offered in a school or school closures • School Boards are responsible for establishing and following their own accommodation review policies. At a minimum, boards’ accommodation review policies are to reflect the requirements of the ministry’s Pupil Accommodation Review Guidelines. Background Information

  3. The purpose of the Pupil Accommodation Review Guidelines (previously referred to a school closure guidelines) is to provide direction to school boards regarding public accommodation reviews undertaken to determine the future of a school or group of schools.

  4. The public review of a particular school or schools is to be led by an Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) appointed by the board. Each ARC must include membership drawn from the school community and the broader community. It is recommended that the committee include parents, educators, board officials, and business and municipal leaders. • At a minimum, ARCs are required to hold four public meetings to consult and to present the School Valuation Framework report and recommendations.

  5. The process of student accommodation review, which may or may not result in change in student accommodation, shall consist of five stages: • Preliminary Analysis of Pupil Accommodation Data; • Process for Review of Pupil Accommodation Options; • Community Consultation and Public Meetings; • Local Accommodation Report Review, Board Decision(s) and Implementation; • Administrative Review of Accommodation Review Process.

  6. The last of the public meetings held by the local ARC will be for the purpose of presenting to the school community(ies) the school valuation report(s) and recommendations that the local ARC plans on making to the Board’s administration.

  7. Prior ARC meetings were held on: • November 26, 2008 • January 28, 2009 • March 4, 2009 • April 1, 2009 • ARC placed in abeyance 5. February 10, 2011
