Russian Across the Curriculum Students: A Diverse Group Challenges faced by Russian heritage learners: • Russian AND English language proficiency • Work and family issues • Prior educational experiences Challenges faced by traditional foreign language learners: • Russian language proficiency • Cultural knowledge • Limited opportunity to apply language skills

Research Questions To what extent do specific Russian Flagship program features (i.e., RAC courses, cohort model, immersion housing) help participants to: • acquire superior level Russian language proficiency? • become globally and interculturally aware? • succeed academically?
Assessment • Intake and exit surveys (based on SPIF, PSU’s University Studies Survey) • Face-to-face interviews Classroom observations • Periodic language proficiency assessment • E-portfolios, also using ACE/FIPSE rubrics
