  2. Loïc Quertenmont - loic.quertenmont@cern.ch dE/dx Estimator • DataSets • /MinimumBias/Commissioning10-Apr1Skim_GOODCOLL-v1/RAW-RECO (run<132514) • /MinimumBias/Commissioning10-GOODCOLL-v8/RAW-RECO (run>=132514) • /MinBias/Spring10-START3X_V26A_356ReReco-v1/GEN-SIM-RECO • RunRegistry + JSON (CRAB 2.7.2_pre1) • JSON file from Run Registry (PIX+TRK GOOD (and NO SCAN) + COLLISION) • {"133029": [[101, 115], [129, 350]], "132661": [[1, 130]], "132662": [[1, 130], [132, 165]], "132599": [[1, 379], [381, 538]], "132440": [[157, 401]], "132596": [[382, 383], [447, 453]], "132605": [[1, 444], [446, 622], [624, 829], [831, 968]], "132602": [[1, 83]], "132601": [[1, 207], [209, 259], [261, 1131]], "132959": [[1, 276], [278, 417]], "133158": [[65, 786]], "132606": [[1, 37]], "133036": [[1, 225]], "133034": [[131, 325]], "133035": [[1, 306]], "133031": [[1, 18]], "132968": [[1, 173]], "132659": [[1, 84]], "132658": [[1, 177]], "132965": [[1, 107]], "132961": [[1, 427]], "132716": [[220, 591], [593, 640]], "132960": [[1, 190]], "132598": [[80, 82], [174, 188]], "132656": [[1, 140]], "133321“ : [[1, 383]], "133046": [[1, 43], [45, 323]]} Event Selection: • Bit 41 AND 0 AND NOT (36 OR 37 OR 38 OR 39) AND NOT (42, 43) • Good Vertex  6.5MEvents • Track Selection • General Tracks, high purity, |dxy|<2, |dz|<15, 12SSHit •  95M Tracks

  3. Loïc Quertenmont - loic.quertenmont@cern.ch dE/dx Estimator Distribution of the dEdx estimator before/after particle gain calibration  Clearly something is missing in simulation for very low dEdx (<1MeV/cm) MC: Particle CalibrationData: Particle Calibration MC: UncalibratedData: Thickmark Calibration

  4. Loïc Quertenmont - loic.quertenmont@cern.ch dE/dx Estimator Vs P • Small differences in the fit on the proton line (AFTER calibration) • Current hypothesis is that saturation effect can be different in MC w.r.t. Data • I also suspect that the shape of the Charge Distribution can be different (at module level  never shown so far) DATA MC

  5. Loïc Quertenmont - loic.quertenmont@cern.ch dE/dx Mass Reconstruction • Suppression of Deuterons in MC • PYTHIA do not produce any Deuterons • Suspect Geant4 can also no produce enough deuterons…

  6. Loïc Quertenmont - loic.quertenmont@cern.ch Count Particles MC DATA Defines 5 Mass Regions for particles with dEdx>5MeV/cm:Pions: M=[0.00,0.35] GeV/c²Kaons: M=[0.35,0.75] GeV/c²Protons: M=[0.75,1.30] GeV/c²Deuterons: M=[1.30,2.20] GeV/c²HigherMass M=[2.20,infin] GeV/c² Regions may differs between Data and MC. Since constants K/C are used to delimit the region.

  7. Loïc Quertenmont - loic.quertenmont@cern.ch Count Particles MC DATA There is: 2.05 times more events in data than in MCand 1.87 times more tracks in data than in MCBut we count 2.55 times more kaons in data than in MCBut we count 2.60 times more protons in data than in MCBut we count 11.6 times more deuterons in data than in MC

  8. Loïc Quertenmont - loic.quertenmont@cern.ch Count Particles RATES Kaon/Protons:Rates MC : 0,15942Rates Data : 0,15627Rates Data / Rates MC = 1,0202  2% more Kaons in data than in MC w.r.t. Protons All these results are very raw results: No efficiency taken into account, and so on…SO these numbers shouldn’t be considered to strictly, but just as an indication…
