  2. Childhood • He is born in Portugal • His birth place is still undecided. • His family was link of some kind to the royal family • At the age of ten he lost his parents • He went as a page to the royal family which gave him the opportunity to become educated

  3. Starting exploring • He work for the Portugese • He went for more than one time across The cape of Good Hope • He went more than one time to the Far East

  4. Turning to the Spanish • After a fight with King Maonel II of Portugal he turned towards the Spanish • He and a Ruy de Falero (a friend of his) presented to the king of Spain Charles V a western expedition going around the tip of South America would take to the Moluccas (Islands rich in spice) • The king accepted this expedition.

  5. Going for the Moluccas • Ferdinand Magellan’s Fleet was composed of Five ships: • Victoria • Trinidad • Santiago • San Tiago • Conception

  6. On Sea • From Atlantic to the Pacific all was well • Restoring the food supplies/water supplies in South America • Finding a way around took him a long time the crew began to be unhappy. • Mutiny, but quickly erased.

  7. Pacific • October 1520 The strait is found. • It took 38 days to sail across the dangerous strait. • After the strait they come on an ocean the Magellan named it the Pacific Ocean. • Scurvy. • Captain revolt • San Antonio was sailing back to Spain

  8. Death • March 1521 he reach the Island of Guam. • Sailed from it to the Moluccas • While in the Philippines he got killed in a fight with natives. • He never reach the Moluccas. • Only the Victoria Returned to Spain.
