  1. ANALYSING: Discuss a few of these points to show good analysis of a source. What do you know about the author? (Age, religion, beliefs, occupation?) Does what you know matter? What is the message that comes across? Is the message obvious? Is there a secret or hidden meaning in the source? Who was this written for? Was it meant for public or private? Has that affected it? Was it written for a reason? How does this source help us? What questions does it raise? What does it answer? How can we use it? What does it prove? SOURCE Driller Does this tell us what people thought should happen (prescriptive) or does it tell us what did happen (descriptive)? Read the language used: How does it work? Are there metaphors or symbols? Is there persuasive language? Does the author miss things out deliberately? What does the choice of words tell you about their world view?
