Interesting Facts • No janitors in Chinese schools • Students often work in groups • Every school must teach morality & ethics • Math, Phys Ed, Music, Drawing, Nature, History, Geography • Learn “love of country” and “love of the party” • Repeat in unison • Sit in rows • Curriculum and textbooks nationally standardized

Chinese Education Criticisms • Kindergarten not available to all children • Only 75% of students complete school • 2/3 of un-enrolled students are girls • Rote learning discourages creativity and independent thought • Rural communities do not get the same advantages as urban • Some school still use corporal punishment

  4. Indian Education • 12 years of school • Only 50% of students attend school • Factory work prohibited, but many work in small businesses • Rural areas as high as 1:100 teacher: student • Private school common • Government funded or privately funded
