[ How can The KnowledgeNET? be used by schools ] As a communication tool utilising polls, notices, calendars, forums, chat, image galleries and PXTing capability To deliver online teaching and learning by running subjects, classes and groups online. Tools include self assessment through e-reflections, learning stories and the ability to deliver assignments and homework easily As a search engine and resource repository. There are over 7000 pre approved websites and thousands of Digital Learning Objects (DLO’s) within KnowledgeNET As a staff intranet. Using KnowledgeNET as a central place to store all your forms, policies, documents and procedures As a cluster facilitation tool. KnowledgeNET is unique in being able to comminicate and share resources among cluster schools To manage your school public website. Content on the site is easily managed through the wsiwyg (what you see is what you get) editor - (Add On Module) As a parent portal. Data from your SMS which you choose to share with your parents can be displayed safely and securely - (Add on Module)

[ Research Zone ] The Research Zone enables your school to have access to a complete research centre including libraries of reviewed websites over (7000). 24/7 access to resources anywhere and anytime. Add bookmarks, view online encyclopedias and local international newspapers. There are a selection of tools like dictionaries, atlases, calculators + lots more.

  7. [ My Zone ] MyZone is the customised environment for each user. It is permissions based (eg student/teachers/administrator) so that every user has applicable access and editing rights for relevant classes, subjects, interest groups and school information. Easily and effectively add content and new resources that can be shared for use in online classrooms, subjects and interest areas. No technical knowledge required. Build inquiry learning and critical thinking skills. Showcase learning achievements and meet individual student’s needs and learning styles. Everyone in the school can access general school notices, discussion areas and calendars. Teachers/administrators can access school management, resources, planning, fundraising etc. Administrators can set up new classes, subjects, interest groups and manage student and teacher profiles. Effective and efficient communications. Interoperability with other school services including all student management systems, library software, internet gateways and filtering systems.

TheGlobal Zonecontains the tools that are shared across all KnowledgeNET schools in New Zealand such as website reviews, microquests, polls. Clusters can share and pool resources on ICT projects, sports events, curriculum innovations….set up shared classes, subjects or groups as well as being able to initiate student or teacher discussions across the cluster. When working on national or internationals issues staff and students can make contact with any other KnowledgeNET school.

[ The KnowledgeNET Tools ] Each zone has its own set of tools for managing its environment … The WYSIWYG Editor The WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor enables you to easily manage you online content. No technical knowledge is required. The WYSIWYG editor allows you to add content to a web page, in the form of text, images, links, uploading files, inserting tables and flash animations. The WYSIWYG editor has cut and paste technology to easily add content and new data from documents, your existing intranet and the rich resources that are available on the internet.
