1. September 29th, 2014 Mrs. Height’s Second Grade Classroom News • All the second grade students in ABSS will be going to WWHS to see The Taradiddle Players perform the story, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. We will be going this Friday. The buses will leave Hillcrest around 9am and return around 10am. Lunches will not be affected. • This week Hillcrest is collecting canned food for our own families!!! All food donated will go right back to our students in need through our weekend backpack program. • In math, we are learning how to solve 3 and 4 digit equations! A good strategy for this type of addition is to combine 2 numbers and add this answer to the rest of the equation. Example., 3 + 7 + 5 =15 (Students circle the #’s they combined.) Notice we made a ten so the equation is really 10+5=15. • In reading, we are finishing asking and answering questions while reading, cause and effect and making predictions using clues in our reading. • In writing, we will begin our second narrative, “A Time I was Scared.” • We all pinned our houses using google earth on the smart board this week. We had so much fun looking at each other’s houses from an aerial view! • Sept. 29th PTO canned food drive begins (lasts all week) • Oct. 3rd Grade 2 field trip to Williams High School • Oct. 6th PTO Catalog Fundraiser Begins • Oct. 7th PTO McDonald’s Night (5-8pm) • Oct. 8th PTO meeting @ 6:30 (Hillcrest Media Center) • Oct. 11th Science Fair Saturday PREP (9-12:00pm) • We are in need of water bottles- Thank you in advance to any families who are able to donate!
