  2. What We’re Learning Letter/ Sight Word of the Week Reading Rr blue, my This week we read a non-fiction book Ice Bear: In the Steps of a Polar Bear. We learned many interesting facts about polar bears and then wrote an informational piece using the facts we learned.. Did you know that they can swim up to 100 miles at a time!. A newborn weighs the same as a guinea pig. An adult weighs the same as 10 adult men. Ask your student to tell you more facts! Word of the Week The word of the week is EQUALITY! We enjoyed the story “Sneetches” by Dr. Seuss. We talked about treating others the way you want to be treated-with kindness and fairness! Writing In writer’s workshop we learned about informational writing. We wrote a list of topics that the class could write about. We wrote about polar bears more. We even came up with a Super Topic which is a topic we know five things about.

  3. What We’re Learning Practice At Home WINTER CHALLENGE Can your Kindergartener tie their shoes? Here is a simple and fun song to help teach your student! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeSkBOYUlag . Next week is BEAR week! We will be learning all about brown and black bears. The story we will be reading is “Bear Snores On” by Karma Wilson. It is a super sweet story about a bear hibernating while other animal friends come into his cave to escape the cold. We will learn all about hibernation and friendship. On Thursday, the students can wear their PJ’s and bring in a stuffed bear or another stuffed animal. We will be transforming our classroom into bear dens!!! Math This week in math we explored measuring weight. Our focus vocabulary words were heavier and lighter. The students discovered that though an object is big does not mean it is heavy. Or because an object is small does not mean it is light. We took a measurement walk to find things in nature to compare weights. The students listened to the book “Equal Shmequal” that discussed weight. We made a coat hanger balance to measure the weight of objects in the classroom. We also used our Bodies as a balance to weigh objects. Healthy Snack ideas Cream Cheese and Jam on Mini Pita Banana Burrito English Muffin Pizza Apples and Sunflower Seed Butter Yogurt snd Granola

  4. From the Specialists Music Yoga Class was focused on getting students back on track for the second part of the year. We are working on settling in our bodies by learning to freeze in the middle of movements and being pancakes. We are getting really good at our Sun A’s and B’s.  This week in music, we will be began to talk about our newest musical opposites, Loud and Soft. We will be listening to the “Surprise Symphony” by Joseph Haydn and playing a game during which half of the class are “Loud Movers” and half of the class are “Soft Movers”, and each group can only move if that part of the song is Loud, Soft, etc. We will also be playing a game during which I will play a song and students must pass a fake snow ball on the beat with a partner. If either partner drops the snowball, they are out. Art This week in Art was a combination of finishing their winter penguin pictures (which are ADORABLE) and starting our next project which will be a self-portrait. The students are starting by working on their backgrounds using tissue paper. P.E. Students have been working on building their cardio endurance through tag games and workouts that incorporate running. They played hot dog tag and had fun!
