To Have the Mind He Had • Philippians 2:1-11 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” • He “emptied Himself” (v. 7) • Gave up the glory of heaven for poverty on earth (Matt. 8:20) • Gave up His glory with the Father to be rejected by His own people (John 1:11) • Gave up independent exercise of some of His divine attributes to give Himself a ransom for all (1 Tim. 2:6) • What a demonstration of pure, unselfish love! • To be like Him, we must empty ourselves! • What have you given up for Christ?

  5. To Have the Mind He Had • Philippians 2:1-11 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” • He “emptied Himself” (v. 7) • He took on “the form of a bondservant” (v. 7) • He left heaven to serve (Matt. 20:28). • “in all things…made like His brethren” (Heb. 2:17) • He washed His disciples’ feet (John 13:1-17) • “…given…an example…do as I have done to you” (v. 15) • To be like Him, we must become a servant! • Matt. 16:24; Rom. 6:6-20; 12:1-2; Gal. 2:20 • Are you serving or being served?

  8. If we will have the mind of Christ… • God will exalt us as He did Christ (Phil. 2:9; Matt. 23:12; Jas. 4:10; 1 Pet. 5:6). • God will give us a name that is above every name as He did Christ—on this earth, the name “Christ-ian” (Phil. 2:9; Acts 11:26; James 2:7; Rev. 2:17; 3:12). • God will permit us to bow before Jesus and confess that Jesus is Lord now (Phil. 2:10-11) & in eternity (Rom. 14:10-11). • We will, with fear & trembling, work out our salvation, allowing God to work in us for His good pleasure (Phil. 2:12-13).
