  2. Electricity • Atoms – The smallest unit of each element • Electrons – negatively charged particles in atoms • Ions – charged atoms or molecules • Magnets – A metal with opposite charges on each side. • Magnets can be used to create electricity.

Current, Resistance, & Voltage • Electricity flowing through a substance is called an electric current. • Current is measured in amperes. • The opposition to the flow of electrons through a material is called resistance. • Resistance is measured in ohms. • The amount of force per electron flowing through a substance is called voltage. • Voltage is measure in volts.

  5. Conductors and Insulators • As with heat, electricity flows better through some materials than others. • Materials with low resistance to the flow of electrons are called conductors. • Materials with high resistance to the flow of electrons are called insulators.
