Second Grade Newsletter Week of September 9,2013 • Math: • Studentswill be practicingdoublingnumbers in storyproblemsand games • Studentswillworkonsubtractionstoryproblems • Studentswilllearn and reviewstrategiesforsubtractionproblems • Mathvocabularyintroducedthisweekincludes: combination, difference, part, whole, doubles, minussign, plus sign, and arrays • Reading: • Introduction to myths and legends • Looking at the theme, setting, and plot of stories • Answering the Who, What, Where, Where, Why and How in stories • Identify past, present, and future tense nouns and verbs • Social Studies: • LearningaboutSojournerTruth, Abigail Adams, and Thurgood Marshall – understandingwhytheyweregoodcitizens • Discoveringgoodcitizensthatliveonourcommunitysuch as thepolice, firemen, and emergency medical servicesemployees • Studentswillcreate a poster aboutgoodcitzenstheyknow and whatmakes a goodcitizen. • Spelling: • Review of kindergarten and first grade words that need additional practice • Spelling pattern for the week will be the hard c (as in cat) and the soft c (as in cell) • This week’s word wall words: • food, last, keep, saw, left • Science: • Comparing objects, estimating • mass, and using pan balances • Investigating the physical property of flexibility • Using rulers to measure • Experimenting with thermometers and temperature • Writing: • Studentswilllearnhowtofindtheir • stories • Studentswillpartner up withanotherstudenttobrainstormwriting ideas and expandtheirwriting • Studentswillgettheir ideas onpaperusing a storyboard • Studentswillwritetheirstories Teacher E-mails: nadalee.daves@rockwallisd.org angela.rosebure@rockwallisd.org linda.blocker@rockwallisd.org lori.kahl@rockwallisd.org School - 972.771.2112 Conference Time : 12:30-1:15 Lunch Times: Blocker: 11:11- 11:41 Daves: 11:11- 11:41 Kahl: 11:19-11:49 Rosebure: 11:19- 11:49 Reminders: Daily Folders will be coming home next.
