Gynecologist • Dr. who specializes in the female reproductive system • Dilation and curettage (removal of the uterine contents for various reasons, including partial miscarriage and dysfunctional uterine bleeding refractive to medical therapy) • Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) • Oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries) • Tubal ligation • Cervical removal of the surface of the cervix containing pre-cancerous cells which have been previously identified on Pap smear.

  3. Pre Menstrual syndrome • PMS • Set of symptoms that some females experience just before menstruation. • Tired • Nervous • Worried • Depressed • Cause is unknown, but is believed that these may be involved: • Stress • Poor Diet • Imbalance of hormones • TX: • Hormone Therapy

  4. vaginitis • Inflammation or infection of the vagina • Signs include: • Pain • Itching • Burning during urination • Unusual discharge • Ex: Yeast Infection • Bacterial infection • TX: Antiobiotics

  5. Sterility • Unable to bear children • Many causes including: • Infections • Sexually Transmitted Diseases • Hormone Imbalance • The male is directly responsible in about 30 – 40 %, the female in about 40 – 50 % and both are responsible in about 10 % cases.

  6. Breast Cancer • DX: • Self Exam – detecting small lumps or shape changes • Mammogram – Low dose X-Ray of the breast. • Able to detect cancerous tumors too small to be found by a DR. or self exam.

  8. Cervical Cancer • DX: Pap Smear • Dr painlessly scrapes a few cells off the cervical wall for testing in the lab. • checks for changes in the cells of your cervix • TX: • Chemotherapy • Radiation • Surgery

  9. Endometriosis • Condition in which the endometrium grows somewhere other than the uterus. • TX: • Hormone Therapy • Surgery

Toxic Shock Syndrome • Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a serious but uncommon bacterial infection. • Caused by a particular form of bacteria • This bacteria in naturally occurring • Increase your risk of getting TSS through use of tampons. • Symptoms: • Sudden high fever <104 • Vomiting • Rash • Diarrhea • Dizziness • Death
