  1. Arrows Don’tCome Back

  2. Spiritual warfare • God strikes hard and strikes often • Deuteronomy 32:23, 42; 2 Samuel 22:15; Psalm 7:13 • The devil strikes back (Ephesians 6:16) • War was declared in the garden; it will not cease until it is completed (1 Corinthians 15:26)

  3. Children • “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.” (Psalm 127:3-5)

  4. Children • Children are our way of imposing our control on the future (Proverbs 22:6) • We bring them up in God’s nurture and instruction (Ephesians 6:4) • They carry on after we depart (2 Timothy 2:2) • The devil’s children will carry on the family legacy; ours must too

  5. Deceitful words • “Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? Sharp arrows of the warrior, with the burning coal of the broom tree.” (Psalm 120:2-4)

  6. Deceitful words • Words do harm and cannot be unspoken • We “murder” one another (James 4:2) when we do not control our tongues (James 3:6-8) • God’s peace (Philippians 4:7) cannot be while we make war with one another • “Member of one another” should “speak truth each one of you” (Ephesians 4:25)

  7. Jesus’ salvation • “Listen to Me, O islands, and pay attention, you peoples from afar. The Lord called Me from the womb; from the body of My mother He named Me, He has made My mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of His hand He has concealed Me; and He has also made Me a select arrow, He has hidden Me in His quiver.” (Isaiah 49:1-2)

  8. Jesus’ salvation • He is the only “arrow” God has to accomplish His will; He cannot be stopped (Acts 5:39) • His message cannot fail to hit its mark (Isaiah 55:10-11) • Laying our heart open (Hebrews 4:12-13) • Distinguishing between sheep and goats (Matthew 25:32)
