  2. The WVDE has partnered with the West Virginia Parent Teacher Association, the West Virginia State Police, RESAs and Securlinx to introduce AmberVision to West Virginia public schools.

What is AmberVision ? • AmberVision is designed to locate missing children. • AmberVision uses state-of-the-art technology to provide accurate information as soon as a child is reported missing. • This information is highly secure and can only be accessed should a child be reported missing. • AmberVision feeds directly into Amber Alert. • In the fall, students in the West Virginia public school system will be enrolled in AmberVision at no cost. • Unless a parent decides to opt out of the program, all West Virginia children in public schools will be registered with AmberVision using their school directory info.

AmberVision Database Access • AmberVision creates a 3D animated avatar rendered from the child’s photograph: • to aid in recognition from off angles. • to improve the performance of facial recognition biometric software. • a copy is included in the enrollment confirmation and is available for personal use.

What can you do? • Contract with Photographers • Specific contract language has been provided to county superintendents to be included in contracts with photographers. • Requires every photographer to provide a CD of student photos • Requires the photos to be aligned with a name and date of birth • First Day of School • Inform parents that as part of POLICY 4350, school directory information will be shared with AmberVision. • Policy 4350 has been updated to standardize what is included in school directory information. • Standard opt-out language has been provided to superintendents • Language should be placed in school directory document sent home to parents • Provide promotional information to parents regarding AmberVision. • One page flyer will be provided for every student in your school along with the school directory document which goes home to parents

What can you do? • Fall Semester • Confirm the CD provided by the photographer contains the right pictures with the right names. • Ensure any opt-out students are removed from the disk. • Mail the disk to the county central office. • Mid Year • AmberVision/Securlinx will provide to every school an individual login pin for every parent who allowed their student’s data to be shared with the program. • Schools will be responsible for disseminating the login pins to parents on a per-request basis.
