IN THE NEWS ABPANC Elects Two Board Members and New ECC Co-Chair • Laura Williams, MSN, CPAN, Gastonia, NC elected to second term on the Board. • Maria “Zoni” Gazy, MSN, RN, CAPA, Atlanta, GA elected to first term on the Board. • Beverly Harrelson, MSN, RN, CPAN, Danville, VA elected as the Exam Construction Committee (ECC) Co-Chair, representing CPAN nurses.

  4. 2013 Advocacy Award • This award recognizes a CPAN or CAPA certified nurse who exemplifies leadership as a patient advocate. • Peggy Running, BSN, RN, CPAN, CAPA, Burnsville, MN • Lladro Statue • Framed certificate • Scholarship for recertification • Unit Award of $350 for continuing education • $100 cash for the nominator

  5. 2013 Shining Star Awards • A record 22 components received this prestigious award at our annual • CPAN/CAPA Celebration Luncheon. • The award is given to all components that meet the criteria: • Availability of scholarships • Contact hours provided • At least one Certification Coach • Recognition event for newly certified • CPAN/CAPA information provided • 25% certified membership

New Unit-Level Award • Nursing Passion in Action • Designed to recognize CPAN and • CAPA nurses who go beyond their • normal job to provide outstanding • patient care. • Nurse Managers use the award in their unit to reward “Nursing Passion in Action.” ABPANC provides one poster and 12 cards for monthly recognition. Award entries are faxed or emailed to ABPANC and recipients are entered in a drawing for ten $25 gift certificates per month.

New Cyber Writer Program • Help us write multiple-choice questions for the for possible use on the CPAN or CAPA exams. • Earn free contact hours from home • - Two contact hours per question submitted • - Up to 60 hours in a 3-year period • Learn valuable skills • Contribute to the development of a national certification program • Online training provided

  8. GET INVOLVED Earn Free Contact Hours Interested in becoming a Certification Coach? We have all the support materials you need to lead a small group of certification candidates as you help them prepare to take a CPAN and/or CAPA exam. Volunteer Coaches earn three contact hours for each participant coached up to a maximum of 60 contact hours in their 3 year period of certification. Join 104 Coaches in 26 states.   10. Recertification Information The recertification process is done completely online. Individuals due for recertification should read the Recertification Handbook (www.cpancapa.org > Recertification). • Fall 2013 Recertification notices will be sent out in July. • Certificants can create a user account by visiting the ABPANC website and clicking the Create User Account link found on the Home Page under Recertification. • Certificants can track their contact hours in the new electronic filing cabinet, update their contact information, receive emails from ABPANC, and complete the recertification process. • Certificants can enter their contact hours as they earn them by visiting the ABPANC website and clicking the Continual Learning Log link found on the Recertification page.

  12. More Resources Great news! The Buy one Get One Free Practice Exam program has been extended until July, 2013! Online Practice Exams (www.cpancapa.org > Certification) are available for people studying for CPAN and/or CAPA certification. There are virtually an unlimited number of 50 question practice exams available to take. Get two practice exam for $35. Contact hours may also be earned.

  13. New 12-week Study Plan is Available Online This comprehensive 12-week study plan organizes subject matter into topics that can be reviewed in approximately four hours per week. This free guide is ideal for Coaches, small groups or your own personal study plan. New CPAN / CAPA Scholarship Program: ABPANC will be introducing in mid-June a new scholarship program to provide a significant number of scholarships for certification and recertification fees to qualified candidates where hospital reimbursement is not available.
