Overview • 3 components of Perrysburg Digital Academy • PDA is it’s own district with it’s own IRN number • PDA is sponsored by Perrysburg School District • Started with $500,000 through Federal and state grants • PDA not classified as an E-school • PDA gets $5700 per student from the state due to being classified as a charter school ($800 for regular student)

  6. All day Kindergarten (ADK) • Uses Waterford System – multimedia, self-contained. Students use computers during 20 minute sessions • Computer based instruction (5 computers per classroom) • 75 kids – 4 classrooms • To offer alternative to ½ day Kindergarten • Tuition - $200 month • ½ Kindergarten teacher’s salary paid by PDA

All day Kindergarten (ADK) extended • Waterford System – multimedia, self-contained. • Added to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades • Students spend 30 minutes a session, 2 days a week • Reading and Math enrichment • District bought labs or enough computers for classroom • No research data showing that Waterford has benefited academic progress

TRECA • Tri-Rivers Educational Computer Association • Company/School district with it’s own online curriculum • Students 25 full time students • Examples: health issues, expulsions (4), taking classes that aren’t offered in-district, 4th grader • 1st through 12th grade • Equipment is provided by TRECA – students complete work at home. Required to come to school to meet with coordinator once a week

  9. TRECA • Classes are set up in blocks with 6 blocks per semester • Response from PDA official if system works, “It either works or it doesn’t” • ½ the kids are re-enrollments • Tuition is paid to TRECA from student monies from the state.

  10. Plato • Used primarily as credit recovery • 20 students this year • Students pay $150 per 2 months. If courses haven’t been completed in that time, student pays additional $75 • Free or reduced lunch students get free access • Last year Plato helped 22 of 23 seniors graduate on time

Plato • Classes in Plato can be designed by teachers by choosing from a bank of lessons • Department heads from HS designed classes • These classes are taken by students using their own home computers on their own time • Other options available other than credit recovery • Laos girl • Testing three full-time HS Plato students to keep money in the PDA

  12. Plato • Plato is also used for class recovery targeting 8th graders • Also set up for middle school intervention

Funds • Plato • $35,000 total to-date spent by PDA • $20,000 per 10 licenses • TRECA • Initial monies came from grant - $500,000 • Monies from state are paid to TRECA per student • All-Day-Kindergarten • $200 tuition per month from Parents • District takes in $5700 per student from state • Costs of ADK – ½ day teacher salary, equipment, etc covered by State funds.
