  1. The Indus Earth Trust IET Mission Indus Earth works to raise living standards by enhancing socio-economic conditions, through an integrated development approach which incorporates reduced use of fossil fuels and encourages the exploration of renewable energy, while ensuring the protection of flora, fauna, and marine life.

  2. After 12 years experience Indus Earth’s main thrust in the Alleviation of Poverty is to provide Beneficiaries with the skills to develop their own businesses. Enable them to stand on their own feet. • Each beneficiary is given an asset of their choice (goats, sewing machine, donkey cart etc). • IET then teaches them how to keep books, establish savings schemes, manage a business, open bank accounts. • IET stays on this programme for 2 years with each beneficiary as supervisor. • IET is working with 1200 beneficiaries till 2013, having completed a previous programme for 800 recipients.

  3. However no one can start a business unless they have the basic provision in 4 items: • Potable water, proper housing, electricity (IET uses Solar and Wind systems) and sanitation. • These facilities have been provided in over 400 villages in Sindh and Balochistan. • IET is providing Livelihood Schemes to 1200 beneficiaries who are the poorest of the poor. • We have had 83% success where each person, after 3 years, is earning a minimum of Rs.15,000 per month.

  4. Integrated Development. • Basic facilities, such as Electricity (solar, wind and biomass), Potable water, Sanitation, Housing, food security. • Livelihoods. Train women and men in alternative sources of income in which they become entrepreneurs to enable them to remain in their area and reduce migration to towns and cities. IET trains these entrepreneurs in management of a business. Keep books, savings, proper accounts, marketing and provide appropriate linkages. • Human and Constitutional Rights. Educate communities, especially women, in their legal, lawful rights. Eventually they will approach their elected representatives and demand what is rightfully theirs as inscribed in the constitution. • This will allow for continuity in sustainability . Leading to communities standing on their feet with dignity.
