  2. What is the Cytoplasm? • The cytoplasm is the semi-transparent jelly-like substance in the cell that encloses many organelles. • Clear Color • Made of mostly water • Holds all parts of the cell together

  3. What organelles does it surround? • Lysomes • Endoplasmic Reticulum • Mitochondria • Golgi Apparatus • Cytoskeleton is found in Cytoplasm

  4. Cytoplasm • The cytoplasm is found in three types of cells: • Animal Cells • Plant Cells • Bacteria Cells

  8. What happens in the Cytoplasm? • Cell Expansion • Cell Growth • Metabolism • Replication • Enzymes in cytoplasm break down molecules for other organelles to use • Dissolves cellular waste • Moves materials around the cell

  9. Discovery • The cytoplasm was discovered by Robert Brown and other scientists in 1835 under a basic compound microscope • Cyto means “cell” • Plasm means “living substance” or :”tissue”
