  1. The Importance of Teeth Scaling Going to the dentist is something that should be done regularly for maintenance and monitoring of oral hygiene. Our teeth are extremely important and are used daily. Throughout our lives, our teeth and gums experience a lot of wear and tear. Having a long-lasting smile contributes to a positive sense of well-being. When it comes to maintaining healthy oral hygiene, flossing once a day and brushing at least twice a day are very important steps to keep both your teeth and gums healthy. If you are dealing with the early stages of gum disease, it can feel daunting. Therefore, teeth scaling is an important part of getting your teeth and gums back on track. The purpose of teeth scaling is to reduce pockets that can develop between your teeth and gums. These pockets can loosen the tooth root and eventually cause teeth to fall out. When these pockets fill up with bacteria and gunk, they can cause your gums to be swollen, red, and make them prone to bleeding. When looking for teeth scaling in Toronto, make sure that you are seeking out the care of a periodontist. In many periodontist offices, teeth scaling and root planing is the first treatment procedure that will be done. The purpose of teeth scaling is to remove bacteria, plaque, and debris that is stuck to the roots of your teeth and in the pockets. Root planing is done to smooth out the root’s surface which then makes it harder for bacteria and debris to stick to it.

  2. Without seeking teeth scaling treatment, your gums cannot start to heal. The tooth roots and pockets need to be clean and free of debris in order to start to start the healing process. Teeth scaling in Toronto is an important part of the deep dental teeth clean. This type of cleaning is generally a more in-depth cleaning than the regular scaling your dentist does during regular appointments. If you have sensitive gums, tissues, or teeth in general, let your periodontist or dentist know before the start of the procedure as a local anesthetic can be used to freeze the area beforehand. It is normal to have tender gums for around a day after having teeth scaling done. Rinsing with salt water three to four times a day can help ease the discomfort.
