  3. What is the benefit of knowing God? • We were created in His image. • If we want to know ourselves we must first know Him.

Genesis 1:26-27 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image,    in the image of God he created them;    male and female he created them.

Examples of God’s Image • Words and Meanings • Word for “God” used in Genesis 1 is ‘elohiym • Plural • God (Rulers, Judges, etc.) • Masculine • Word used for “Image”is the Hebrew word tselem • Masculine • Word used for “Likeness” is the Hebrew word demuth • Feminine • Mankind was created with Authority • Mankind was created in perfect complimentary relationship • Male and Female

  6. What is the benefit of knowing God? • We were created in His image. • If we want to know ourselves we must first know Him. • In him is the “light of life.” • In order to have “good life” (as defined by God) we must know him.

John 1:1-5 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

What is the benefit of knowing God? • We were created in His image. • If we want to know ourselves we must first know Him. • In him is the “light of life.” • In order to have “good life” (as defined by God) we must know him. • God is light, all else is dark. In Him there is life, without him there is only death.

  12. How can we know God better? • Read, Hear, Study, Memorize, and Meditate on the Word of God. • John 1:1 • Ask Him. • Ephesians 1:17-18 • Live it and gain experience. • Put into practice the very attributes of God in your life. • Matthew 13:12

Is conforming to the image of God my main priority in life? • Do I know what it means to have a relationship with Him? • What am I doing to gain more knowledge of who He is? • Do I read, hear, study or memorize the Word? • Do I meditate on the Word and apply it to my life? • Do I ask God for wisdom and insight into who He is? • When given the opportunity what actions, attitudes and lifestyles do I exemplify that indicate I am made in His image? • Do I live humbly, graciously and contently? • Do I seek holiness, peace, justice and wisdom? • Do I display mercy, love, gentleness, patience, kindnessand compassion.
