  2. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 1: Ethos. Everyone – every child/young person and every adult – matters in the educational setting, where the ethos promotes positive attitudes and awareness of the needs of the whole child/young person or individual.

  3. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 2: Policy. The Every Child Matters well-being outcomes are reflected in all policies within the educational setting and are promoted in everyday practice.

  4. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 3: The Environment. The environment within the educational setting is safe and healthy; it promotes enjoyment in learning; it values individual contributions and secures personal and social well-being and economic awareness.

  5. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 4: Leadership and Management. The leadership and management of the Every Child Matters change for children strategy provides a clear direction, distributed empowerment, ownership and accountability for implementing and achieving the five Every Child Matters outcomes.

  6. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 5: Personalised Learning. Personalised learning, which builds on children’s and young people’s interests, aptitudes and strengths, making education more responsive to individual learners’ needs, promotes high expectations, enjoyment and appropriate challenges in learning, within and beyond the educational setting.

  7. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 6: Curriculum Entitlement, Access and Choice. The planning, organisation and delivery of the whole curriculum for learning and well-being, which includes out-of-hours learning opportunities, reflects the Every Child Matters outcomes, ensuring equality of opportunity, choice and access for the full diversity of children and young people.

  8. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 7: Presence, Participation and Personal Development. A diversity of children and young people is represented in the educational setting who demonstrate tolerance, respect and responsibility; they participate in a range of activities, developing into confident, healthy, self-managing lifelong learners and citizens.

  9. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 8: Partnership with Parents and Carers. The educational setting works proactively in partnership with parents and carers to enable them to support their child’s learning and Every Child Matters well-being outcomes.

  10. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 9: Multi-agency Working. The educational setting works in partnership with external multi-agency service providers to meet the agreed Every Child Matters objectives and targets, in order to improve outcomes for children and young people.

  11. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 10: The Community. The involvement and participation of the community in the Every Child Matters programme of change for children and young people builds cohesion, while ensuring that everyone matters in the local learning community.

  12. The Twelve Every Child Matters Standards • Standard 11: Transition and Transfer. The educational setting has effective transition and transfer procedures to promote continuity and progression in relation to children and young people achieving the Every Child Matters well-being outcomes.

The educational setting promotes a continuous professional development programme for Every Child Matters, which supports capacity building to equip a skilled and knowledgeable learning and well-being workforce to meet the needs of children and young people

Standard 1: EthosChecklist • Everyone – every child/young person and every adult – matters in the educational setting, where the ethos promotes positive attitudes and awareness of the needs of the whole child/young person or individual. • Our vision and mission statement for Every Child Matters is clear and displayed. • Our educational setting is welcoming, friendly and safe. • The staff are emotionally intelligent. • Children/young people and the staff are proud to belong to this educational setting. • The views and positive contributions of children/young people and their parents/carers are respected and valued. • The learning and well-being of everyone in this educational setting matters. • A high level of openness and trust exists within the educational setting.
