  1. Volunteer Meeting September 13, 2019 • Thank you all for Coming • The presentation will be uploaded to our website and emailed out to all classroom liaisons this weekend. • Please hold questions and comments due to our limited time and vast topics. Come see us afterwards or send us an email. • We must vacate the Cafeteria by 10:15 a.m. in preparation for lunch. • Don’t forget to log today’s attendance as 1-hour of volunteer time!

  2. “Fall Into Lunch” During the month of September & October our school cafeteria will be celebrating “Fall Into Lunch” for Stevenson parents. Each classroom will have a designated day when parents will be our special guests for lunch. A special picnic table will be reserved in honor of our guests. On your day, you may purchase the “Special of the Day,” or you may choose from the school menu. Adult lunch price is a bargain at $3.10 cash or check only. We hope that you will join us.   4. Science Fair Information Session – 9/19, 5 p.m. • Teacher Mr. Comoletti will hold an informational meeting in the cafeteria regarding Science Fair.  Mr. Comoletti will be reviewing all of the Science Fair procedures and expectations for this year, including some major changes from the district. • Recommended for grades 4 – 6. • Required: Science Fair boards $5, must be purchased at school. • January 15 – Science Fair judging. • We are seeking Science Fair Judges with a science background please, contact Shannon Boyd at couponqueenshannon@gmail.com

  5. Penguin Palooza • Friday, September 27, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. • R.L. Stevenson Back Field • Swag Bags are still on sale!!  Cinch bag, visor, rally towel with penguin logo all for $15! Rally towel will be great during Penguin Palooza activities!! Root on your favorite teacher!!   All of these items can be used year after year. Swag orders should arrive by Penguin Palooza. • Events sponsored by Grade

Penguin Palooza Events sponsored by Grade • K-Pie eating contest ~3 • 1st-Water balloon toss ~ 6(this will be 3 on the first shift and 3 on the second shift) • 2nd-Tape wall ~3-4(this will be 3-4 on the first shift and 3-4 on the second shift) • 3rd-Dunk tank ~4(this will be 2 on the first shift and 2 on the second shift) • 4th-Cake walk ~1-2 • 5th-Doughnut on string ~4(this will be 2 on the first shift and 2on the second shift) • 6th Grade handles the food as part of the fundraising  for the trips and special events that they take during their final year, so they would handle that separately. 

  7. Penguin Palooza Needs • One or two volunteers to be "in charge of the lights for Penguin Palooza. We need someone with a 2” hitch to transport them back and forth from Sunbelt Rentals in Port Canaveral to the back field between 10-2 on September 27. Make sure the light towers get turned on during the event around 6pm and turned off and stowed away when the event is closing down. The person then makes sure the lights are driven back to Sunbelt on Monday morning preferably before 9:10 when PE begins. Access can be coordinated with Steve, Megan or AJ.

  8. Penguin Palooza Needs • K ~16 cans of whip cream and 16 pie tins (and a cooler with ice) • 1 ~(500) easy fill water balloons and containers • 2 ~ none(we have plenty of tape left from last year • 3 ~dunk tank rental • 4 ~30 baked goods(homemade or store-bought)  • 5 ~25 dozen doughnuts and the string/rope. Done and Thank you. • Check Request Form

  9. Penguin Palooza Volunteers on 9/27 Volunteers who work 2+ hours are entitled to one free entrance ticket to the Penguin Palooza event. Please contact Megan Scott (shadyonesgirl@Hotmail.com) or AJ Bengoa(ajeanenebengoa@gmail.com) to sign up to volunteer.

  10. Seeking Penguin Palooza Future Volunteers • Looking for volunteers to organize and coordinate future Penguin Palooza events due to eventual departure/graduation of current team members. • This is a good time to learn from the mentors.

  11. Media Center News – 9/18, 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. TheMedia center is having a "Popsicles with Parents" Event. Mrs. O'Connor will be doing a short presentation of what the media center has to offer.  September 16 – 20, the media center is doing a coin challenge for the week to raise money for STEM supplies for our media center. Students can bring loose change for the following dates:   September 16- pennies September 17-nickels September 18-dimes September 19-quarters September 20-any bill or change Each day the class with the highest amount of change collected will win an ice cream party. 

  12. Seeking Photographers The yearbook is looking to recruit yearbook photographers. Seeking one volunteer per classroom (preferably not the liaison). Responsibilities: Each class photographer would need to capture at least 10 candid photos of their students (whether it s a field trip, or a demonstration in class, or anything except a school wide event as those have their own photo spreads).  They can get as many as they want because we always need more candids.   13. Seeking “At Home” Volunteers • We need parents who are willing to volunteer by taking work home. • Volunteer time counts • If you are interested, please contact Shannon Boyd at couponqueenshannon@gmail.com

  14. School Needs • 8 distilled water bottles for the golf carts. They can be brought into the front desk labeled for golf cart or Stefan. We need this for daily Penguin Walk.

  15. September Calendar of Events • Friday, 13 – Volunteer Meeting • Tuesday, 17 – School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting 4:30 p.m. Immediately followed by Parent Organization meeting. • Tuesday, 17 – Take your “Dear One” to school (National bring your Dad to school day) – Order form on last page of RLS September monthly newsletter. • Wednesday, 18 – School Teacher & Staff appreciation lunch hosted by 6th grade. • Wednesday, 18, 3:30 – 6 p.m – Media Center informational session • Thursday, 19, • Wednesday, 25 – Fundraiser “Out of Uniform” (no theme) day. $7/each child if you did not pre-pay for the year (must still comply with BPS dress code) • Friday, 27 – Fundraiser Penguin Palooza 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Future event needs: • GALA – “RLS Masquerade” • Raddison Resort in Cape Canaveral • Saturday, February 8, 2020, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. • Need to sell tickets • Junior Achievement volunteers • Spring 2020?? Specific needs will be communicated in the near future for all events. Pay attention to weekly emails from P.A.L.S.
