  1. Matthew 6:5–15 And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you……

  2. 7“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven……

  3. 11Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

  4. Thine be the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever, Amen.

  5. Prayer is simply communicating with God.

  6. Prayer is not for show. • Prayer is not long empty repetition.

  7. Jesus prayed.

  8. Jesus does not actually teach us a prayer to simply recite, but rather a new way to see God. Jesus teaches us that prayer is less about us, and more about God. It’s being able to see clearly who God is, so as we approach Him in prayer, we can have confidence, boldness, and assurance. Not in who we are or what we’ve done, but in who He is.

  9. Jesus is asking us to pray with a wider view then self. • Prayer includes us, but does not exclude them.

  10. We see God as Father

  11. If you want to grow in prayer, don’t focus on prayer. Focus on the Father.

  12. We see God as Father • We see God as Holy

  13. As we pray to God, acknowledging Him as holy, it glorifies God and it humbles us.

  14. We see God as Father • We see God as Holy • We see God as King

  15. The world as we know it will come to an end and the kingdom of God will be revealed. • In the meantime, we live seeking to make, the invisible kingdom visible. - John Calvin

  16. We see God as Father • We see God as Holy • We see God as King • We see God as Lord

  17. His will be done, not your willbe done.

  18. We see God as Father • We see God as Holy • We see God as King • We see God as Lord • We see God as Provider

  19. If you want to learn how to pray, don’t look to religious people. Look to children who have a Father who adores them.

  20. Seeing God as provider allows us to live simply and generously. Being satisfied with our daily bread AND helping others to get theirs.

  21. Challenge: This week, read these 10 verses (Matthew 6:5-15) every day, and pray them, as we begin seeing God as: FATHER – HOLY – KING – LORD – PROVIDER
