Analysis of Hospital Data • Memorial Medical Center, Las Cruces ER & hospital admissions data, 2007-2010 • Our analysis indicated effects of PM10, PM2.5 and O3 on emergency room visits during the April-September period • Strong effect of summertime O3 concentrations on cardiovascular ER visits among the elderly • Sources in southeast Texas, Baja California and southwest US were the most important regional contributors
Analysis of ozone in the region • Wildfires contributed between 3 and 10 ppbv to monthly averaged 8-hr maximum ozone concentrations • This represented between 9 and 22% of measured monthly 8-hr maximum O3 concentrations • At remote Chiricahua location, fires contributed 7 ppbv (12% of monthly 8-hr max.)
Developed dust source database • 2000-2012 database from satellite imagery
Biological Aerosol Program • Fungal and pollen characterization One pair of fungal samples collected & analyzed (qPCR) near dairy dust sources showing diversity and spatial variation within 2 km
Dust Mitigation Program • Demonstration areas covering 1-1/2 years 3 housing development sites; 5 different controls in urban setting in Las Cruces Dust collection using BSNEs Colinas site
Dust Modeling • Collaborating with US Naval Research Laboratory, Monterey – NAAPS model • Compilation of dust days, locations, durations • Ongoing comparisons & include project dust source locations in future NAAPS runs March 18, 2012
Baseline & Inventory Reports • Summaries of historical PM10, PM2.5, ozone, and lead data • Climate assessment for the region • Air quality and climate monitoring inventory • Emission inventory for the region • Geospatial data inventory for the region
