  2. Research Assignment 2008 • Initial Research Question • “Can we design a model process to help new partners in the Climate Wise program establish goals for environmental management?”

About Climate Wise • Climate Wise is a voluntary program for local Fort Collins businesses and organizations to join. • 4 Tier Partner level: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum • Currently have 90 partners. • Partners join by • Signing a partnership agreement • Having a site assessment done by Climate Wise • Keeping up with self- proposed goals, as well as Climate Wise requirements.

  4. Task • Interview 24 Climate Wise partners • Generate Interview Schedule • Analyze results • Design goal process to aid new partners

P3s and Climate Policy • Public-private partnerships, or P3s, are formal agreements between government entities and organizations/businesses that are created to achieve specific goals. • Traditionally ,P3s have been used in public works projects. • Cities are responsible for about ¾ of the world’s energy consumption as well as 80% of the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. • Climate Wise is a P3.

Sustainability Management • Climate Wise members use sustainability management systems to reduce their impact on the environment, and reduce costs. • Sustainability management systems are used to promote and maintain environmental responsibility. Organizations evaluate the impact their decisions have on the environment , and opt to operate leaving as little impact on the natural environment as possible.

  7. ClimateWise Partners Evoking Change • Annual Cost savings for Climate Wise partners exceeded $4.5 million in 2007. Since the program’s inception, cumulative savings to partners are nearly $12.5 million. • Climate Wise partners reduced 82,421 tons of CO2e in 2007. • Water savings amongst Climate Wise partners from 2001- 2007 equaled nearly 3 billion gallons.

  8. Action outside of the workplace • Partners in the program employ nearly 20,000 people, ranging from small, one employee businesses to CSU, the largest employer in Northern Colorado. • Employers and employees alike take sustainability efforts outside of the work place, and into their communities.
