1. Adeline Falling Leaves Adeline was born in 1937 and she lived in an affluent family. She had five siblings , but her mother died when she was two weeks years old. Her father loved her mother very much but when her mother died, he did not continue to love his children as before.

2. Adeline’s older siblings didn't like Adeline. • They always bullied her, saying their mother died because of her.

3. After one year, her father fell in love with another lady. Her name was Niang. • Niang had beautiful white skin, dark eyes and black hair. She had been a clever student in her country and she spoke three languages.

4. When Adeline’s father remarried Niang they had two children, one boy and a girl. • The boy was very spoilt and was not liked by his siblings. He died when it was his 13th birthday. • He ate too many unwashed strawberries so he was poisoned.

5. Adeline's father was very successful and a very rich person.

6. Adeline studied hard and received good school results . When she went to Hong Kong to work, she became successful, but she still yearned for her father's love and step mother’s acceptance. Her father may have loved her but he wouldn’t show it because he didn’t want her stepmother to know. He cared for Adeline.
