  1. WELCOME TO MAGNETIC FORCES!!!! Yay!!!

  2. What is a permanent magnet? Permanent magnets are those we are most familiar with, such as the magnets hanging onto our refrigerator doors.  They are permanent in the sense that once they are magnetized, they retain a level of magnetism.

  3. So then what’s a temporary magnet? Temporary magnets are those which act like a permanent magnet when they are within a strong magnetic field, but lose their magnetism when the magnetic field disappears.  Examples would be paperclips and nails and other soft iron items.

  4. Then what’s the difference? • PERMANENT magnets retain their level of magnetism while TEMPORARY magnets lose their level of magnetism when the magnetic field disappears. • Oh…ok : )

  5. What is a magnetic field?? • A magnetic field is an invisible field which exerts magnetic force on substances which are sensitive to magnetism. • It can also be defined as the region in which a magnetic force may be exerted. so what does it look like???------

  6. Magnetic field around a single strong magnet.

  7. Magnetic field around two magnets

  8. Here are some things to remember…… • A magnet is any material that has some iron in it so as to exhibit a north and south pole • Magnetic field lines indicate the direction of the magnetic force acting on an N-pole • Permanent magnets retain their level of magnetism • Temporary magnets lose their level of magnetism.

  9. THE END….. • ….but first a quick joke. What did one magnet say to the other?? I’m attracted to you……..lol By: Jenna Mapp
