Why should I go abroad? • To broaden or deepen your knowledge • Language skills: it is good for your English proficiency • Social and intercultural skills: it is good for your personal development – you get an insight view of another university/ country/ society • As a graduate with a period abroad on your CV you have a better position on the labour market

  5. What am I going to do abroad, where and when? • Studyorinternship? Ifstudy: Notonlyoptionalcreditscanbedoneabroad, but alsomandatory course parts are possibleifyou have approval of the Examination Board Ifstudy: youneed a partner university. Otherwiseyou’ll have topaytuitionfees. Scholarship programmes - Erasmus+ EU scholarship • List of BilateralAgreements; see prospectus -> Exchange -> Outgoing student • 3–12 months in Europe forstudy • 2-12 months in Europe foraninternship • For eachcycle up to 12 months: BSc, MSc and PhD • Finances: 360 Euros for “expensive” countries, 300 intermediate countries and 240 for “cheap” countries • internship 120,- extra per month

Scholarshipprogrammes: Fulbright & ISEP for USA Fulbright • http://www.fulbright.nl/ • Deadline End of Januaryeachyear ISEP • 6 months in the United States • Consortium of more than 100 American universities • You must have passed the first two years of the BSc programme • Finances: next to Dutch tuition fee you need +/- 3500 Euro • Deadline: 15 January 2020 for exchange in 2020-2021 • TOEFL /IELTS certificate is part of the procedure • Info meeting from central IO: 17 October

Scholarship programmes- Max Planck Scholarship • Research internship in Master’s at a MPI in Germany • At least 6 months, max. 1 year • Finances: 500 euro per month (Erasmus + a bonus) • Nomination via Hub Nijssen io@science.ru.nl • Step 1: read about a research topic of your interest at a MPI: https://www.mpg.de/institutes • Step 2: talk about it with your possible supervisor • Step 3: make a short proposal (1/2 A4) and a CV and mail io@science.ru.nl • Step 4: IO contacts the MPI and nominates you • Step 5: if the MPI accepts you, you’ll get the scholarship

What’s next? • In November we will send a “Call” via email to all 2nd and higher year students to start the application process in Osiris • Deadline February 1st • Outcome of this call around February 16 • Administrative process will be started up by central IO depending on semester 1 or semester 2 exchange • Internship exchange can be started in Osiris every day, this is not part of our “Call”
