  1. How Many Centurions Own an Apple Device Daniel Lopez Alex Sosa Miguel Orozco Jorge Garcia Period 3 2012-2013

  2. California Standards • 8.0 Student organized and describe distribution of data by using of different methods, including frequency table, histogram, standard line and bar graphs, stem-and-leaf displays, scatter plots, and box of whisker plots. • 17.0 Students determine confidence interval for a simple random sample from a normal distribution of data and determine the sample size required for a desired margin of error. • 18.0 Student determine the P-value for a statistic for a simple random sample from a normal distribution

  3. Hypothesis • We believe that the average amount of seniors who own apple device is about 80%.

  4. Data Collection • Our group used cluster sampling to collect only senior data, each of our group members asked 25 seniors from our classes and/or lunch. • Some seniors were absent and/or may have lied • Seniors were asked the question “Do you own an Apple device?” • Their response was either yes or no, with a total amount of 100 seniors surveyed

  5. Data • Do you own an Apple device? • 65 Yes - 35 No

  6. Statistics • From our survey, we have a sample proportion of 65%of seniors who said yes.

  7. Confidence Interval • 95% confidence Interval • Z-interval • (55%, 74%) • We are 95% confident that seniors in Century High School that own an apple device are between 55% and 74%.

  8. Hypothesis Testing • Hypothesis • Test Statistics • 1 prob z-interval • P-value: .5385 > • At 5% level of significance we failed to reject There is enough evidence to support our claim.

  9. Error Analysis • Our sample proportion is 65%, and the 95% confidence interval is between 56%~74% The marginal error is about 9% • Our sample error is due possibly to not asking more people. We could’ve asked around more and acquired a more accurate sample.

  10. Conclusion • We hypothesized that the average of seniors at Century who own an apple device is 80%. In our survey of 100 seniors, we find a sample proportion is 65%. We conclude that the population mean of the seniors at Century is between 56%~74% with 95% confident. We test our initial hypothesis with 5% level of significance, confirm our hypothesis is incorrect.
