  1. Ussé – The Chateau of Dreams Sydney Scott French II Period

  2. Information about the Ussé • When was it built? It was built in the 11th century, but reconstructed in the 15th century. For whom was it built? The Usse was built for the French military forces. For what was it built? Usse was built as a stronghold or fort for the forest of Chinon.

  3. Three unique features of the château • 1. It was mainly built in the 15th and 16th centuries on the foundations of an 11th century fortress, but its successive owners, each with their personal touch, brought to it a unique charm.2.This chateau in particular inspired the well known tale SLEEPING BEAUTY due to the fairy tale-like style of its design thanks to the turrets, of course .3. The Usse is one of the many famous chateaus that have many towers, which were added and modified by different personalities who resided there for the time being.

  4. Two Important events: 1. Jean V de Bueil (a general of Charles the VII) obtained the Usse in 1456 and began to add on to it later in the 1460’s.2. The area to the north was torn down during the 17th century to allow the extraordinary views to be unobstructed. The garden area is well known and was designed by La Notre. It is known as the King’s Gardens and it includes a spiral staircase.

  5. My opinion of the château • I would love to live in the Usse chateau, but for experience purposes. A living establishment THAT big is meant for one person. Despite its size, the architecture is astounding, very fairy tale-like.

  6. Château quiz • 1. The Usse was FIRST established in the. ( 11th century)2. The Usse inspired. ( Sleeping Beauty)3. This chateau was created for. (the French military)4. The Usse came to be what is today thanks to each previous , who added their own charm to the chateau. (successor)5. The Usse also inspired the _, which are now some of the most famed entertainment icons to date. (Disney castles)

  7. Personal interest 1 • The Usse seems like a very tranquil scene, which in my case, is a perfect place to do my artwork.

  8. Personal Interest 1 • With such a huge and maze-like structure, the Usse would be an EXCELLENT place for a good round of hide-and-seek. However, who knows how long the game would go on…

  9. Personal interest 2 • Once being a magnificent, I don’t believe the Usse is being preserved as it so fully deserves.“This was one of the more expensive places to visit, but as you wandered around, the impression was of faded grandeur, even crumbling grandeur. It didn't have any of the opulence that other chateaux had, and there were few flowers.” - Posted by “A.”

  10. Personal Interest 2 • I truly appreciate good quality architecture because it reveals how detailed and articulate the French successors were in designing this chateau. I would love to one day create an art piece dedicated to this structure.
