Outcomes of our Meeting • Provide Information on what grads have decided so far • Define • Commencement-afternoon • Grad- evening /banquet • Dry grad-no school involvement • Jerel Peters • Parents needed-name to Fessler • Safe grad- no school involvement • Parents needed • Outline process • Gather support for requirements of graduation • Organize/Secure parent volunteers • Outline roles

Why grad? • Celebration of years of work • Recognition of student and teacher effort • Great celebration of student learning and accomplishment • The best celebrations are those that include community, school, parents and students…all people must partake in organization and celebration for events like this to be successful.

  4. GRAD THEME / SONG • Student voted • Students will be deciding theme • Theme and song will go together

  5. Staff • Involvement of Staff • Celebration of successes! • Concern of past • Staff were involved in organization/coordination and monitoring • Last year • Staff be an integral part of grad • They celebrate with the students • They are recognized for their contribution as well. • Staff are presented as faculty at Commencement(Friday) and are part of the formal event in its entirety

  6. Grad Committee • In Place-Large group, almost 50 meet each Monday • Need for Small leadership group5-8 for decorating and such • Name to Fessler • They will report to larger group who will make the final decisions or take it to the larger group

  7. Location • Why no gym? • Space concerns/mezz • Decorating options-looks better than our gym and much cooler • Can’t see grads as they go behind stage • Arena\Curling Rink • Commencement • Bleachers/Video/Chairs(football)/Backdrop(part of committee) • Staff seating/gowns • Diagram • Will light up speakers/walk in • Voting for speakers etc –during TA • Banquet • Set up/Video/Chairs moved Sat morning • We need support of all parents and students during those 2 days prior to. We will forward details to you and ask for your help to get set up.

  8. Grad Pictures • Done • Retakes-To be Done • Must be taken for yearbook • Let us know if problem • NEED SLIDESHOW PICTURES!

  9. #’s • Arena holds 1000 • ~155- grads to date • Please try to limit to 8 total INCLUDING grad…request to Holly if more • Grad plus 7 guests

  10. Costs • 50 dollars Grad fee paid • Caps/tassels • Diploma cases • Pictures/certs • Dry cleaning • Gown rentals • Commencement activities • Decorations • Facility rental • At about $30 per ticket for banquet • Food costs • Sound costs • If difficulty then call me • Fundraising • Grads have discussed some ideas(car wash, bake sales, evening entertainment)

  11. Format and Date • 2 days based on success of last 5 years • Event and student responsibility. • Responsible behaviour and parental support of processes put in place. • Understand this is a school function • Friday is a formal event , Saturday, while more of a celebration ….is still a school event and all school rules must apply! ANY STUDENTS SUSPECTED OF BEING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE. • Handout-look at timelines

Who gets to attend? • Walking Across MUST mean something • Banquet- Even if students can not participate in Commencement, they can fully participate in the Banquet • Commencement • Have 100 credits and all grad requirement in agenda by June 30th (Students must be “On Track”) • Be passing by April 15 • If student is not, they would be called in by admin/guidance • All DL and Correspondence courses must be completed by May 30th • Fessler and Admin are ensuring this occurs

  13. Dance • Students opted for no dance the past 5 years • Voted upon • I Support it…reason, school looses control • Students want to move on by that time and most often falls flat. • We will however offer a few dances to celebrate the evening. • Comments?

  14. Valedictorian • Students want Valedictorian at grad/not awards. • Process • Highest average as of Midterm • Other possibility was a vote by…people did not like the popularity piece.

  15. Volunteer check • 5-8 dedicated parents to join 3 dedicated staff on arranging and meeting with decorating girls and (one or 2 guys) to design, decide, budget etc • Gathered from your kids • Clarity around this • Feel as if we need a solid group of 5 • Work with 4 staff • Myself • Fessler-main contact • Slater- Parent checker • Chart made-Fessler
