  1. Monday August 27 • Please read the agenda and write the underlined information in your planners

  2. Lab Book Set-up • Write the page number in the upper, outside corner of every page. • Write your first name, last name, and hour on the front of your lab book. • Write your first and last name on the edges of your lab book.

  3. Table of Contents • In the first 10 pages of your lab book, make a chart like the one below.

  4. Glossary • In the last 6 pages of your lab book, make charts like the one below for every letter of the alphabet.

  5. Lab Book Grading • Organized throughout • Complete Table of Contents with dates, titles, and page numbers correctly labeled • Daily work is complete • Glossary has all vocabulary words and their page numbers

  6. Info on Do Nows • Each day you start a new page in your lab book, label the title on that page, and fill out the Table of Contents. • At the beginning of each class you will have a “Do Now.” It is a list of questions that you answer in your lab book. • You need to write the Do Now questions AND their answers.

  7. Info on Exit Slips • At the end of class some days you will have a miniature quiz, called an Exit Slip. • This is your chance to win a drawing ticket. Whenever you get an 80% or above on an exit slip, test, or quiz you will receive a drawing ticket.

  8. Info on Class Points • Your class will get points for following directions, being on task, volunteering… • For every 5 points you earn in a day you will receive a class drawing for a prize. • When your class gets 100 points you will have a class reward.

  9. Tuesday August 28 Remember to write the Do Now question and the answer in your lab book and then fill out the Table of Contents. • Do Now: • What skills are the most important for a scientist to have? Scientists’ Skills 8-28-2012 10(or whatever page number you’re on)

  10. Create Graphic Organizer (under your Do Now from today)

  11. Read Article Together • Then complete graphic organizer.

  12. Answer questions from reading • This worksheet is due by tomorrow.

  13. Wednesday August 29 Remember to write the Do Now question and the answer in your lab book and then fill out the Table of Contents. • Do Now: • 1. Make a list of at least 3 safety rules to follow in science. Safety Notes 8-29-2012 11 (or whatever page number you’re on)

  14. Safety Notes • Please draw a line underneath your Do Now. Then draw a line dividing your paper in half. Your Do Now Stuff This side is for words This side is for drawings

  15. Notes Before Lab: • Read and understand the procedure • Tie hair back • Remove baggy clothes and dangling jewelry • Clear area of everything except lab materials, lab book, and pencil • Wear closed toed shoes On this side draw a picture of someone following the safety rules for before a lab.

  16. Notes During Lab • No horseplay • No food, drinks, or gum • No running • Follow all directions carefully • Tell the teacher RIGHT AWAY about any injuries, spills, or broken items On this side draw a picture of someone following the safety rules for during a lab.

  17. Notes After Lab • Clean your area completely before leaving class • Return supplies as directed • On this side draw a picture of someone following the safety rules for after a lab.

  18. Notes Other Safety Information • If you don’t understand something ask the teacher • Only work when the teacher is in the room • Do not take materials without permission • On this side draw a picture of someone following these safety rules.

  19. Exit Slip • Look through your notes to prepare for the exit slip

  20. Exit Slip • Label your note card with your FIRST AND LAST NAME, DATE, and HOUR. Labeling this correctly is worth one point. First and last name Date Hour 1. 2. 3.

  21. Exit Slip • Clear everything off of your table. Close lab books and put them on the floor. • NO TALKING, at all. If you have a question raise your hand SILENTLY and wait for the teacher. • You can just write the letter of the answer.

  25. Thursday August 30th • Remember to write the Do Now question and the answer in your lab book and then fill out the Table of Contents. Do Now: • What lab safety rule do you think is the most important? • What should happen to someone who doesn’t follow the safety rules? 8-30-2012 Safety Scenarios 12 (or whatever page you’re on)

  26. Safety Contract • The Safety Contract needs to be signed by both you and a parent. • Homework: Safety Contract (due tomorrow)

  27. Safety Scenarios • Underneath the Do Now, number your page 1-9 and skip lines between each number. • As a group identify the rule (or rules) that were broken in each scenario. One scenario didn’t break a listed rule, so instead write about what went wrong.

  28. Friday August 31st • Remember to write the Do Now question and the answer in your lab book and then fill out the Table of Contents. Do Now • What should you wear during a lab? • What should you not wear during a lab? • What do you do when a lab is over? 8-31-2012 SpongeBob Safety 13 (or whatever page you’re on)

  29. SpongeBob Safety • By yourself or with your tablemates, read and underline as many broken rules as you can. Each person needs to underline on their own paper.

  30. Safety Quiz • Clear everything off of your table and close your lab books. • Remember to take the quiz silently. • Try the extra credit. It can only help your score. • When you’re done, hand your quiz in the tray and sit quietly.
