Referral ProcessHigh School • Students are identified by their dean or counselor at the home school • A conference is held with the student, parent/guardian, dean and counselor. • A referral packet is prepared, signed by a parent and sent to GSHS • The Alternative Review Team (ART) reviews the information and makes recommendation for admission

  6. Reasons for Referral High School: • Credit deficient • A number of minor behavioral infractions • Poor attendance patterns Middle School: • Students who have repeated the same grade at least twice Regional Safe Schools Program (RSSP): • Expulsion hearing • Intermediate hearing

  7. Alternative Education Curriculum • The middle school program follows the same core academic curriculum--no exploratory classes or P.E. • The high school follow the same core academic curriculum--few electives classes

  8. Curriculum (continued) • Evening School offers the district core curriculum and a limited number of elective courses • Summer school offers credit recovery as well as enhancement opportunities • RSSP uses Apex Learning

  9. Graduation/Promotion School year 2006–2007 2007-2008 High School: Graduates : 38 42 GED: 4 10 Middle School: 7th Grade 8 10 8th Grade 16 17

Transition Options High School: • Return to home school after two successful quartermesters (one semester) • Remain at GSHS until graduation requirements are completed Middle School: • 8th graders are encouraged to return to their home school • 8th graders may appeal to attend GSHS RSSP: • Return to home school • Seniors may complete requirements and Graduate • Appeals process to attend GSHS
