  2. PARTICIPLES A participle is a word formed from a verb that can function as part of a verb phraseorindependentlyas an adjective. Thereare 3 forms of participle: PresentParticiple (Ving) PerfectParticiple (having V3) PastParticiple (V3)

  3. PRESENT PARTICIPLE- (Ving) • It is usedwhentwoactionshappen at thesame time: I atesandwich, and I looked at thewindows. Eatingsandwich, I looked at thewindows. • Thereason-resultconnectors (as, since, for, so , nowthat) areomitted: Because I am a teacher, I shouldknow it. Being a teacher, I shouldknow it.

  4. who/which/that + BE can be omitted: Thegirlwho is sittingthere is Ayşe. Thegirlsittingthere is Ayşe. • who/which/that+ VERB-ing Thebookwhichcontainspictures is interesting. Thebookcontainingpictures is interesting.

  5. PERFECT PARTICIPLE-(HAVING V3) • It is usedwhenthere is a time gapbetweenthetwoactionsorstates: After he had done theshopping, he wenthome. Having done theshopping, he wenthome. Having improvedher English,Pia's promotion prospects were much better.
