  1. Possible amendment of IEC 60335-2-40 LiTingxun 15-23 July 2016 Vienna, Austria

  2. Related clauses of IEC 60335-2-40

  3. Very strictly limited charge mass reduce the efficiency even though some Low GWP alternative refrigerants have high efficiency potential. • Harsh requirements would hurt Low GWP product’s competitiveness. • Some critical requirements of the standard were made about 20 years ago. • It is possible and should to revise the standard impartially and scientifically with new data.

  4. Maximum charge mass of flammable refrigerants The installation height h0 is fixed No air flow in the room

  5. 24 23 22 12 11 10 6 / 3 2300 5.4×4.4×2.6(Length*Width*Height) / 2 1 21 20 19 18 17 16 1300 5 / 4 9 8 7 15 14 13 200

  6. Influence of the installation height h0 350g-fan off-1.8m 460g-fan off-2.2m Equivalent safety for more charge with higher h0

  7. Influence of airflow 700g-369m3/h 700g-fan off Airflow can influence leaked refrigerant diffusion greatly

  8. Fan off 214m3/h 582m3/h 369m3/h 700g-1.8m

  9. Suggestion

  10. Add a new clause to consider relaxe maximum refrigerant with airflow mmax = SF x LFL x hra x A

  11. The only question is how long it need to revise this simple but obvious issue/ clause of the IEC 60335-2-40
