  1. When You Know the Relationship is Not For You. When Disillusionment Strikes

  2. Physical, Emotional or Verbal Abuse • These are no brainers • If you are scared for your physical, emotional or mental well being when you are in a relationship with someone, you need to break up. • If you can’t break up with the person on your own, and feel threatened, then you need to confide in someone and seek help.

  3. 1. Lack of Contact • You used to text, call, tweet, or hangout with your bf/gf for a significant amount of time, but now… you can’t really be bothered. It might be time to end the relationship.

  4. 2. Lack of Effort • When you first started dating, you could come up with plans quickly and it seems like there were endless things you could do… …now the best you can do is watching TV with your mom and dad. It might be time to break up.

  5. 3. Fighting Dirty • You used to have small disagreements that were easily resolved. Now you pull out all the stops in arguments, and you or your partner intentionally try to hurt each others feelings. Ex: She tells you that you’re a loser because you can’t pass Math and she tells you that no one else will ever love you. It might be time to end the relationship

  6. 4. Fighting Publicly • You’re so fed up that you don’t care who sees or who hears. • Entering into a screaming match in public is a sign that a relationship is out of control. • If you don’t care who sees your problems, it’s a sure sign that you’ve lost respect for your partner. It might be time to end the relationship

  7. 5. You want your independence • You used to spend a significant amount of time together. You couldn’t stand being a part. • Now, you make up excuses as to why you can’t hang out, and you feel that hanging with your friends is more enjoyable. It might be time to end the relationship.

  8. 6. Change in Perception • Everything you loved about the other person are now things that drive you crazy. • Ex: You used to think his voice was cute, but now it sounds like he smokes 3 packs a day. • Ex: You thought her nose looked just like a button, but now you can’t get Miss Piggy out of your mind. • When all the good, now seems to be all the bad… It might be time to break up

  9. 7. Keeping Secrets • The basis of a successful relationship is trust. • If you can’t trust your partner with something your friend told you, or with something that might affect their own situation (either with a friend, family or work) it’s clear you no longer feel you can confide in them. It’s time to end the relationship

  10. Any other suggestions/reasons why it might be time to break up?

  11. Time to Break Up • When you experience some, or all of the above, you need to take a hard look at your relationship. • Breaking up is not fun, but is necessary when relationships do not work out. • Don’t stay in a relationship trying to fix it, when it is unfixable. • Some things are just not meant to be.
