  2. How it works • Harvested from the ground using similar pipes as oil. • Uses heat from combustion and turns it into electrical energy • Also uses a steam turbine to increase efficiency • 35-50% efficiency, depending on whether a steam turbine is present Dexter St-Pierre

  3. Is it renewable? • There are 3 kinds of methane natural gas is made from • Thermogenic Methane • Abiogenic Methane • Biogenic Methane • Only biogenic methane is renewable Dexter St-Pierre

  4. What are the positive aspects of natural gas? • A far smaller amount of pollution that other common energy sources • Up to 50% efficiency • Cheep to consumers • High reservoirs • Renewable Dexter St-Pierre

  5. What are the negative aspects of natural gas? • Uses large amounts of land to create factories • Destroys wildlife • Lots of noise pollution • Uses huge amounts of water • Known to causes small scale earthquakes Dexter St-Pierre

  6. What waste is created? • Natural gas emits small amounts of: • Carbon monoxide • Carbon dioxide • Nitrogen oxide • There are no other major waste products Dexter St-Pierre

  7. Which countries use the most? • The USA uses the most natural gas • Russia is the second largest consumer • Iran falls in third • America uses a lot because it is a cleaner alternative to oil and we have access to lots of it Dexter St-Pierre

  8. Where is an ideal area to collect natural gas? • Kansas, Oklahoma region • Texas • Gulf of mexico

  9. Is this energy source available in your community? • As we see in the map of the U.S., Minnesota has little to no natural gas • It might be worth looking for a field no one has found Dexter St-Pierre
