  6. Power Point 23 Minutes • Taking notes using Cornell Notes (remember you must include SPRITE and a summary at the end of your notes)

  7. Introduction to Document Analysis 20 Minutes • Purpose is to help us understand the importance, limitations, bias and value of a source. • We will complete steps 1-4 as a pre reading activity • Steps 5-8 will be done after we complete the reading • We will complete the first document together

  8. Document Analysis (AP Parts) • 1. Title: What is the title of the document? • 2. Author: Who wrote this document? • 3. Time and Place: When and where was this document written? • 4. Prior knowledge: List at least 5 facts that you know about the topic after you have skimmed the text. • 5. Audience: Who was the intended audience for this document? • 6. Reason: Why did the author write this text? • 7. Main Idea: What does the author want you take away from this text? • 8. Historical Importance: Why does this document matter to us now as young historians?

  9. Instructions for reading 20 Minutes • We will be reading two primary sources on Jamestown. • As we read we are marking the text, highlight important details, ask questions. INTERACT • Next we will continue to work on our document analysis chart.

  10. Homework • Chapter 2 Completed Cornell Notes, due Monday September 11, 2013 and Document Analysis if needed • *Remember Cornell Notes must conclude with a one paragraph summary

  11. Exit Ticket 5 Minutes • How did the English change the Americas? 2 minutes
