  3. Smog is mostly ground-level ozone (O3), created when sunlight acts on methane and nitrogen oxide gases. Smog

  4. The other main ingredient in smog is fine-particulate matter such as aerosols, smoke, and dust. Fine-particulate matter under an electron microscope Smog

  5. Fine-particulate matter is also known as PM2.5 because the particles are less than 2.5 mm (2.5 millionths of a metre) across. Smog

  6. In Ontario, the Air Quality Index (AQI) provides information about the level of smog in the air. Air Quality Index

  7. When the AQI is predicted to be poor over a long period of time and over a wide area, the Ministry of the Environment will issue a Smog Alert Air Quality Index
