  1. Simulation in NEEShub NEES & MCEER Annual Meeting 2011 Session #11: High Performance Computing and Simulation Gregory P. Rodgers Ph.D. NEESComm IT June 10, 2011

  2. Tools in NEEShub Resources, categories, classification Using the Tool Portal in NEEShub Communication with other users and developer, problems, reviews, usage Sessions and Data Management NEEShub Simulation Tools OpenSees, other executable, downloadable Tool Contribution Agenda

  3. “Tools” is the first of 9 Resource Categories in NEEShub Tools in NEEShub

  4. NEEShub Resource Categories

  5. This indicates the tool can be run “launched” in the hub. If it says “Download” you can download to your workstation and install But click here first to see portal Tools in NEEShub • Tool SubCategories • Simulation • Visualization • Telepresence • Data Management • EOT

  6. These tabs and support button define the NEEShub Tool Portal for communication with other users developers, and adminstrators. NEEShub Tool Portal

  7. BuildingTCL

  8. Downloadable DEEPSOIL DEEPSOIL is an example of a windows downloadable tool.

  9. epet1 Windows tool Running in the hub

  10. Notice screen shots provided by tool owner Frame 3DD

  11. Downloadable LARZ 2D

  12. OpenSees Binary

  13. OpenSees Laboratory Frank will talk more about OpenSees Lab

  14. OpenSees Navigator

  15. Downloadable PulseSnapper

  20. NEESHub Execution Servers NEESHub Execution Servers NEESHub Execution Servers site data site data neesfs: /data/groups NEES CyberInfrastructure /nees/home Site Telepresence Tools Synchronees webdav custom ws scripts PEN web browsers neesfs: /home project editor NEESHub Web Server web services Tomcat Server Hub Tool Sessions nfs nfs neesws.neeshub.org nees.org nfs read only hibernate nfs nfs propel PEN “in the hub” nees01: Oracle server neesdb.neeshub.org The NEES Project Warehouse

  21. Synchronees – A tool to move data to group data and ensure others in your group can update your data. webdav – A standard Windows or MacOS interface to upload/download using a web file browser Project Editor – A component of NEEShub web site used to copy data directly to the NEES Project Warehouse PEN – A custom java tool used to move data and metadata directly to the NEES Project Warehouse Web Services Scripts – written by site power users with the Web Services API to get or put data directly into the NEES Project Warehouse. Also supporting utilities: ftp (to neesws.neeshub.org) sftp, scp (to nees.org) 5 Data Paths to the NEEShub

  22. Default is 1GB When you need more, open a ticket and NEESComm IT will increase this to 10GB. If you still need more, then consider shared group space or request a custom amount /home directory quota

  23. Persistent tool sessions My NEEShub

  24. Active tool sessions Hub Tool Sessions

  25. Manage your home directory space - default 1GB - open ticket to increase Data Management

  26. Home space management Optionally you can open a workspace which provides a Linux promt to traverse and remove files and directories.

  27. NEES Tool Concept – Extremely simple to start tools for users. Slightly more difficult for tool contributor to setup. Tool Contribution Flow Request space (svn tree) Use svn to upload data to NEES svn Request IT to “install” latest snv tree to dev Test dev version Request IT to publish tool Tool Contribution

  28. Simulations in the NEEShub run on execution servers managed by NEESComm IT. Currently this is two 16-core servers running Debian Linux. How do we provide more resource to simulations launched from the hub such as Teragrid and OSG? HUBzero provides a universal API (submit) for sending workload to remote systems such as Teragrid and OSG. Integration of OSG and submit planned for NEEShub release3, July 2011. NEES now is a registered Virtual Organization with OSG. Teragrid and OSG sessions

  29. NEEShub is “the cloud” for running cyber simulation for earthquake engineers. A rich tool management environment is available for a growing number of simulation tools and user interfaces for simulators. This is just a start. We need to reach out to tool and model developers. Summary
