  1. Guatemala Reflections To : Courtney From: Amber Nelson, Qua’niya Young , Nikel Malone , Kyle McFarland , and Damouri Chesney

Amber’s Reflections • What surprised me was when we learned about the civil war, the food, the languages, the housing, the shopping places, Guatemala’s writing, and the money. • I still want to know if they are still looking for the families that died in the war. Are they trying to clean it up? What kind of jobs do they have? Do they really deliver some foods on bikes? • My favorite parts of the project were when we got to compare Guatemala and the U.S.A and learn how different they are; when we saw that video about Shorty and how he grew up; and how we learned all the different languages that they speak. • My questions for Courtney: 1. Is life getting better over there? 2. What do the children learn in school?

  3. Nikel’s Reflections • Something that surprised me is that there was a civil war and over 200,000 people are missing . • I would still like to know about the gangs. Are they doing anything new? Who are they helping now? Do they care about how people feel in the community? • My favorite part about the project was hearing about Shorty and what he went through and what he’s doing now. • Did you learn anything new Courtney? What fun activities do they have or enjoy in Guatemala?

Kyle’s Reflections • What I learned was that people can live in one place and live the same daily life • I still want to know about everyday life in Guatemala and how are their education is different from our education • My favorite part of the project was when we got to look at the neighborhoods and compare them to our side of town • My questions for Courtney: 1. I would like to ask you how was your experience was talking to the people and did you blend with everybody when you went somewhere or did something ?

Qua’Niya’s Reflections • I was surprised to learn about the money, Guatemala City, the land, types of people in Guatemala, the buildings, and the stores. • I’d like to know more about how they make money and the way they talk, write, and walk and how they prays to the Lord. I also want to know what kind of clothes and shoes they wear and how many kids they can have and more about the civil war. • My favorite parts of the project were when Shorty was talking about struggles in Guatemala and what his mom did when he was little and how is dad died and the civil war. My favorite was also how, when they die, they put them in a box and walk them down the street and play music. • Hello, my name is Niyaand I want to ask you some good questions: 1. What things affected you when you went to Guatemala? Why? 2. How did you feel when you went to Guatemala? Why? 3. Did you talk to Shorty when you got there?

  6. Damouri’s Reflections • 1. What surprised me is that Guatemala has gang trouble. • 2. I want to learn more about how people live there and how things work. • 3. My favorite parts was how y’all had to deal with all that trouble with gangs down there and all the poor people. • 4. I want to ask how about how you were treated down in Guatemala?
