  2. Course of Study Projects and Performances is the gifted and talented enrichment course at RDMS. The course is developed to compact and accelerate learning for an identified group of students. Students will look at a variety of unit projects such as Political Cartoons, NJ Mock Trials, Fractured Fairytales, Persuasive Writing—Defending the Outrageous, Rube Goldberg, Fiction and Non-Fiction studies, and independent projects are encouraged. Students also learn to play American Contract Bridge. According to recent studies, learning bridge can increase a math score up to 50 points, depending on the testing instrument. Performance and writing are also a part of the program. The class is about process, and the skills necessary to understand, execute, and achieve the required results in education.

  3. NAGC Standards • The Department of Education in the state of New Jersey point to the National Association of Gifted Children Standards. • We align to these standards and they are posted on my website.

  4. Four Units • The Greeting Card Company: A start-up business unit • What is? ( a very deep question ) Philosophy Unit • Shadow Puppet Theatre: Performance unit • Planet of the Apps: Learn how to develop apps for android phones

  6. Teamwork • Group of three students is the Product Development and Creative Team • Individual responsibilities: • Manufacturing • Sales and Marketing • Accounting Students will design, and manufacture and sell their cards. All profits will be donated to a charity of our choice.

  8. What is?Philosophy Unit • Aesthetics • Ethics • Logic • Epistemology • Metaphysics • Social and Political Philosophy • Socrates, Plato, etc. – Students will research and present information about one philosopher of their choice.

Tools: Children’s Literature • Through the use of famous and not so famous children’s books, we will address each of the fields of study. • Some areas could get dicey, and with tact and diplomacy I will ask the students to ask you and form their own opinions. • Strong classroom rules on our discussions and debates

  10. Shadow Puppet Theatre

  11. Performance Unit • Students will develop a knowledge of the history of super heroes in literature • Groups will write a play depicting the origin of the superhero • Origin can be fractured • Create puppets, stage and sets • Perform the play

  12. Planet of the Apps • Yes, I spelled that right! • With the guidance of MIT’s learning labs we will learn how to create apps for android phones • Have to work out some kinks…if we can’t do it this year we will do a computer programming unit – code.org and hscode
