5. 2017 NAEP Results

6. Overview • 4th grade Math and 4th grade Reading scores for Delaware both decreased by 3 points • 8th grade scores in Reading and Math were not significantly different SY2015 to SY2017 • 4th grade Math decline was with lower performing students

7. Overview • 8th grade Math showed improvement at upper level students and declines for lower level students • Subgroup (demographic) data from SY2015 to SY2017 did not show any significant changes

8. Overview • Florida was the only state to show improvement in 3 out of 4 assessments • Most declines were in 4th grade Math (10 states decreased in Math, 9 states decreased in Reading)

20. DeSSA Training Reminders • NO additional training courses for any assessments will be available after April 27, 2018. • All DeSSA ELA/Math training windows are complete. No additional sessions will be available. • If users did not complete DeSSA Entry and DeSSA Smarter Summative, they will not be a trained user to administer ELA/Math assessments • DeSSA Science/Social Studies. • Users who are administering only S/SS must complete DeSSA Security and DeSSA S/SS Test Administrator training. If users do not complete this training they will be unable to administer the S/SS field test.

26. Help Desk Tickets Please attach an IEP to requests. This will help to expedite the approval process. Accepting DOE approved accommodations for new or renewed IEPs and 504s or new students, only.

27. Accommodations for Science and Social Studies Field Tests • The following students may be exempted from the field tests because of unique accommodations provided on their IEP or 504 plan; these exemptions needed to be submitted to DOE via District/Charter District Test Coordinators. • Students who: • participate in the DCPS; • have a human interpreter; • participate in the DLM Alternate Assessment; • receive the EL exemption for Smarter ELA testing; or • have ASL, Braille, or a large-print paper version of the test provided. • All other students will need to participate in the field tests.

29. Security, Incidents, non-Participation

30. SECURITY Make sure TIDE has correct accommodations/ supports and TA knows what they are and VERIFIES all are correct BEFORE testing (Suggestions- communication, ideas?) TA should ensure that computers are not available to students who have completed a test while other students are testing. (Suggestions- turn off monitor, put chromebook under desk) DOE considers possession of a device to be the same as accessing (Turn & Talk- how you collect, note: report even if see in pocket) See clarification on instructional vs. Motivational material on wall (Suggestion: Daily walk day before and day of in testing rooms)

31. Instructional Materials For all DeSSA assessments … The general rule is no instructive materials, for any content area, during testing, even for content areas outside of the area being tested.  We will edit next year's TAM to be more clear and not contradictory.

Instructional Materials To prevent problems due to interpretation of what is 'encouraging,' we give the advice to remove everything.   However, if a school wishes to have encouraging posters, the examples below would all be acceptable.   PBS poster of classroom expectations  the school pledge poster a welcome sign near the door or a sports team related poster that says “Go Eagles” or “Go Phillies” (Note: No Cowboys or Redskins posters.) “mindfulness” posters

Upcoming DeSSA EventsScience and Social Studies Science Field Test Administration Window: April 16 - June 1 Social Studies Field Test Administration Window: May 7 - June 1 Test administrators deliver the online field test to students. Benchmarking the process of using field test student responses to define the range of performance levels within each score point of a test item. Delaware educators arrive at consensus while scoring to the standard established by the rubric, so training sets can be built accurately reflecting those standards. This process ensure that teacher committees set the parameters for acceptable scores on a constructed response item. Approximately 25-30 educators will be involved in this activity in June 2018. Scoring Scoring of each student response using the benchmarked anchor papers as a guide for training the scorers. Occurs in July 2018.

49. 12 student alerts from AIR AIR programming picks up these words or writings in item response box or notepad DOE notifies the school (Principal and counselor) of content and student information School personnel interview with student and parent to let them know of the issue (some minor, while others are more concerning). Often, students write part(s) of a song with inappropriate, suggestive, offensive or harmful language. School code of conduct applies and notifies DOE of resolution. Recommendations Inform TAs and students prior to taking a test that text responses will be reviewed, even if incorrect, and they must avoid inappropriate, suggestive, offensive or harmful language. School code of conduct applies.
